Physician - Pediatric Nephrologist, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital, Grand Rapids, MI

Helen DeVos Children's Hospital (HDVCH), a nationally recognized tertiary pediatric center, is seeking an additional Pediatric Nephrologist at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level to join our expanding and highly collaborative Division of Pediatric Nephrology. This is an outstanding opportunity to practice within a comprehensive, academically engaged program that prioritizes patient- and family-centered care while advancing innovation, education, and research.

Position Overview

This is a full-time faculty position with a balanced mix of inpatient, outpatient, academic, and leadership opportunities. Candidates with interest and experience in leadership will have the opportunity to be considered for a Medical Director role in either Pediatric Dialysis or Pediatric Kidney Transplantation, depending on expertise and programmatic fit.

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Full-time clinical role with inpatient and consult coverage every fourth week

  • When not on inpatient service, 5-6 half-day clinics per week, including opportunities for:

    • Outreach clinics

    • Telemedicine

  • Practice within a well-supported multidisciplinary care model, including:

    • Dedicated clinic and dialysis nurses

    • Transplant coordinators

    • Social workers

    • Dietitians

    • Pharmacists

    • Research coordinators

  • Access to a full spectrum of advanced nephrology therapies and procedures, including:

    • Acute and chronic hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis

    • Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)

    • Plasmapheresis and lipid apheresis

    • Kidney transplantation

    • Aquapheresis (coming soon)

Academic and Educational Environment

  • Academic appointment through Michigan State University

  • Active participation in:

    • Pediatric resident education

    • Medical student teaching

  • Pediatric Nephrology Fellowship launch anticipated in 2027, offering robust opportunities for faculty mentorship, curriculum development, and scholarly leadership

  • Strong divisional commitment to quality improvement and research, with ongoing participation in:

    • CKiD

Leadership Opportunities

Qualified candidates may be considered for a Medical Director role in:

  • Pediatric Dialysis

These roles offer protected administrative time, programmatic leadership, and the opportunity to shape regional and national impact within a growing children's hospital transplant and dialysis enterprise.

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree

  • Physician (MD) or (DO) - Michigan Medical License

  • BE/BC - Pediatric Nephrology

  • Certification: (BLS) - (ACLS) - (PALS)

Helen DeVos Children's Hospital is a 243-bed, freestanding tertiary care children's hospital located in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. It is the only licensed freestanding children's hospital and Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in West Michigan.

HDVCH provides comprehensive care to a diverse and medically complex population, including:
