Job Summary:

The Miller Operator safely operates machinery used to break up and remove existing asphalt and prepares roadways and related surfaces for new asphalt. Oversees the functioning of the milling equipment. This is highly skilled role.



Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities:

    Safely and skillfully operates a milling machine following all standard equipment operating procedures.
  • Maintains equipment in proper operating condition by performing simple preventive maintenance and repairs such as fluid checks, replacing worn out parts and lubricating equipment.
  • Responsible for daily checks of the milling drum, conveyors and water supply systems.
  • Maintains constant visual contact with co-workers on foot and trucks in front of the machine.
  • May perform general Asphalt labor duties


Qualifications (Experience, Education & Certifications, Key Attributes):

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Pass pre-employment screening requirements; Drug Screen and Criminal background check
  • Thorough understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specifications, oil consistencies, compaction and other details related to asphalt paving.
  • Be willing to work holidays and weekends, and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to read printed materials, signs and directions.
  • Great attention to detail and stress tolerance

Physical and Environmental Specific Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around or otherwise position one's self around the required work area
  • Maintain safety requirements when moving about and performing activities on job site in a safe manner.
  • May be required to operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment and other tools within local, state and federal safety guidelines.
  • The position requires working outside, frequently for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme heat and cold temperatures.
  • While working, the employee may be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other air-borne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris.
