JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Penn State Extension is seeking applicants for a summer intern to support its Organic and Regenerative Agriculture programming through content creation, marketing, and field engagement activities. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Assisting with marketing and promotion of Extension programs through news articles, social media, short videos, and photography
  • Shadowing Extension Educators and Faculty during organic and regenerative agriculture events, farm visits, and research or demonstration plots
  • Capturing and documenting photos and videos of agricultural programming and initiatives
  • Collaborating with the Field and Forage Crops Team and Marketing and Communications Specialist to develop and share content
  • Creating and maintaining a social media content calendar to highlight educator and researcher work
  • Assisting in storytelling efforts to better communicate Extension resources to farmers and stakeholders
  • Supporting events such as Farming for Success, Ag Progress Days, and organic field days
  • Organizing, naming, and storing digital media files for long-term use
  • Completing an end-of-internship report and any required deliverables

Desired Outcomes:

  • Intern gains skills in agricultural marketing, content creation, and digital storytelling
  • Increased understanding of organic and regenerative agriculture practices
  • Improved educator confidence in sharing research and program impacts through digital tools
  • Creation of reusable media assets for current and future Extension programming

Requirements:

  • Interest in agriculture, communications, marketing, or related field
  • Applicant must have a valid driver's license and personal vehicle to travel.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Basic understanding of photography, videography, and content creation tools
  • Computer skills specifically with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Office 365
  • Have the ability to work as part of the Extension team as well as to work independently, and have the ability to follow procedures as determined by Penn State Extension

Compensation:

  • $16/hour plus fringe
  • Approximately 289 total hours (about 36 hours/week for 8 weeks)

BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES

Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
