Job Family Description

Occupational Health and Safety personnel ensure workplace environments comply with health and safety regulations and standards to prevent accidents, injuries, and health hazards. They conduct risk assessments, regular inspections, and audits to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions. They develop, implement, and train employees on health and safety processes, procedures, and protocols. They ensure organizational compliance with health and safety requirements from regulatory agencies. They review and provide input for hazards and controls in job safety analyses. They investigate incidents, analyze causes, and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks that affect workers, property, the environment, and the general public.

Discipline Description

Chemical managers provide technical review and data extraction, reporting, classification of new/existing chemicals, and maintain safety data sheet records, for chemicals. This requires technical knowledge in the fields of chemistry, environmental compliance, fire protection, and/or safety/industrial hygiene to establish and administer policies, procedures, an assessment program, and support regulatory reporting to drive the implementation for the site. They are responsible for the establishment of training programs for facility chemical coordinators, administering the database for inventory tracking of chemicals throughout their lifecycle, and data analysis for regulatory reporting. Chemical managers serve as the cognizant authority for the Chemical Safety and Lifecycle Management Program implementing a compliant Hazard Communication Program for the Savannah River Site and associated contractors.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

Work closely with the members of the Chemical Management Center and its customers to gain an understanding of their
requirements. Maintain technical expertise in assigned emphasis areas. Proactively communicate and coordinate with others to provide support for assigned area. Perform root cause analysis and outlines corrective action for given problems. Ensure continued service of chemical management software by performing timely system maintenance. Translate customer reporting needs into functional program and assist in the preparation of the required report. Conduct feasibility studies to investigate alternatives to determine how to best implement customer requirements.
Enter Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information into the Site Chemical database. Entry of data limited to fields not requiring interpretation. Routinely interact with site customers and have the ability to provide advice involving basic chemical management principles. Routinely interact with other chemical management personnel to discuss solution to basic chemical management issues. Ensure that the data quality objectives are met for entering SDS information into the Electronic Data Warehouse System (EDWS) database. Research chemical properties as directed by senior CMC personnel. Assist in the preparation of facility level procedures. Provide assistance with other CMC tasks as requested by, and under the direction of senior CMC personnel.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field
* Equivalencies to experience and education requirements will be considered

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug & alcohol test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
