Overview

Beyond New Horizons, LLC (BNH) has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Aircraft Mechanic, supporting TOS II, at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA (NFAC). The Lead Aircraft Mechanic will be working as a member of an integrated team responsible for [e.g. operating and maintaining or supporting] the United States Air Force Test Operations and Sustainment efforts.

Open to internal candidates only. The selected candidate for this requisition must be available to work any shift and shift determination will be made based on the priority of work at the time the selected candidate is cleared to report to work.

Job Summary

This position is for a Lead Aircraft Mechanic to support facility operations and maintenance of the National Full-Scale Aerodynamics Complex (NFAC). The Lead Aircraft Mechanic performs all the duties of an Aircraft Mechanic, such as preparing test articles for testing, installing test articles, operating test articles such as controls for engines, helicopters and rotorcraft, performs maintenance and servicing work to ensure facility reliability, along with specific Lead responsibilities detailed below.

Job Duties

Lead Aircraft Mechanic Responsibilities

    Lead by example with a commitment to proper job safety planning, including
    • Be an active participant in Job Safety Analysis (JSA) development
    • Review JSAs in the area and ensure job safety plans are in place and followed
    • Ensure JSAs are updated when job circumstances change
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is being used by the craft
  • Be a role model for collaborative interactions and teamwork in the workplace
  • Instruct and mentor less experienced craft
  • Lead by example for maintaining clean, organized and safe workplaces
  • Check progress on assigned tasks the craft are working on daily basis
  • Assist Supervisor with daily assignments and tasks given to crew
  • Provide general feedback, such as daily work progress reports, examples of strong safety or technical performance, and any issues or concerns to the Craft Supervisor

Aircraft Mechanic Responsibilities

  • Install wind tunnel model and support components
  • Perform inspection and maintenance tasks on rotorcraft/aircraft models
  • Operate wind tunnel, model control consoles and model utility control consoles
  • Perform facility retrofits and general maintenance of mechanical systems
  • Establish a job safety analysis for performing work to mitigate or eliminate potential hazards
  • Work in a cross-functional team environment
  • Ability to read blueprints and facility drawings
  • Read and understand operation and maintenance instructions
  • Communicate oral and written instructions effectively, check for understanding
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workplace
  • Support Engineering Department on assigned tasks
  • Communicate issues and concerns to Lead Mechanic and Mechanical Craft Supervisor
  • Bring safety concerns to Supervisor
  • Provide feedback to Lead Mechanic and Supervisor for crew needs such as tools, training, certification, etc.
  • Perform detailed pre-job safety planning including identifying potential hazards and developing a job safety analysis to mitigate or eliminate the hazards
  • Attend requisite mechanical craft safety and job qualification training
  • It is a condition of employment to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy
  • Perform other duties as required and/or directed by Supervisor


Responsibilities

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma plus trade school or related experience
  • Helicopter/Aircraft maintenance or helicopter/aircraft flight experience
  • 3+ years of experience in operation, installation, troubleshooting maintenance and repair of NFAC mechanical systems
  • Valid California driver's license required to maintain job
  • Ability to provide clear, concise, and accurate communication, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact effectively with customers, co-workers, and management
  • Must adhere to appropriate safety, quality, and environmental practices, as well as business ethics practices
  • Ability to pass a physical exam and operate industrial machinery
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance and access to the local area network
  • Current U. S. Citizenship required
