Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Technician to support materials characterization, process evaluation, and laboratory operations. This role is responsible for safely operating equipment, executing test plans, ensuring accurate data, and contributing to continuous improvement of lab methods and safety practices. Examples of lab work include:

  • Blasting metals, spraying with adhesive, and bonding to rubber in a mold/press
  • Testing bonded specimens on a tensile machine and a hydraulic fatigue machine
  • Weighing, mixing, milling, cutting, and testing rubber

All data generated must be accurately recorded and shared with the engineering team that requested it.

Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate test equipment and support troubleshooting
  • Maintain accurate and complete records (data/notes, photographs, reports, etc.)
  • Observe all safety rules, consistently practice safe working habits, and provide safety guidance to others
  • Analyze data, screen for anomalies, and take appropriate corrective action as needed
  • Seek on-the-job training to become proficient in technical tasks utilizing skills matrix
  • Maintain and improve the cleanliness and organization of our lab spaces
  • Work with our team to establish the appropriate priority for each task
  • Continuously improve operational safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Communicate test results and status clearly and punctually
  • Understand and minimize sources of test variation
  • Ensure up-to-date calibration of all lab equipment
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • 4 years relevant work experience or 2 years and an associate degree in a related technical discipline or relevant 4 year degree
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret written instructions such as test plans, product/tooling drawings, work instructions, operating procedures, specifications, etc.
  • Skilled in operating manufacturing and test equipment
  • Ability to work in a team environment and to cultivate strong working relationships
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment
  • Ability to operate department computers and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills including conveying job status and results verbally and in written form
  • Willingness to learn/use diverse lab equipment including rubber mills, presses, and hydraulic test machines

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in rubber molding/processing and related materials testing
