| Primary Purpose of Position |
The Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Success (
AVPAS) provides strategic leadership, operational oversight, and innovation leadership for the university's undergraduate academic success ecosystem. Reporting directly to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education and Student Success, the
AVPAS plays a critical role in advancing equitable academic outcomes, strengthening student persistence, and modernizing undergraduate education to meet the evolving needs of today's learners.
This role is central to aligning curriculum, academic policy, and highimpact practices with institutional priorities for retention, timely graduation, workforce readiness, and postgraduate success. The
AVPAS ensures that undergraduate academic experiences are responsive to changing student demographics, learning modalities, and expectations, while maintaining academic rigor and compliance.
The Assistant Vice Provost for Academic Success provides administrative and strategic leadership for the following units and functions:
- Air Force ROTC and Army ROTC
- Office of Military and Veteran's Affairs
- U.S. Space Force Liaison
- General Education Council
- PreProfessional Scholars Program (PPSP)
- Office of Accessibility Resources (OARS)
- Center for Undergraduate Research (CUGR)

An 1890 Land Grant University, North Carolina A&T State University, enjoys a long-standing national reputation in learning, discovery, and engagement. | Minimum Requirements |
- Earned doctorate (Ph.D., Ed.D., or equivalent) from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive administrative experience in academic affairs, undergraduate education, student success, or a related area.
- Demonstrated experience with undergraduate curriculum oversight, general education, academic policy development and interpretation, and faculty governance processes.
- Working knowledge of accreditation standards, assessment practices, and compliance requirements, including experience supporting institutional, programmatic, or general education accreditation and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise professional staff and program directors, including performance management, mentoring, and fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Strong analytical and strategic skills, with experience using academic performance data (e.g., retention, progression, DFW rates and course sequencing) to inform policy and programmatic decisionmaking.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across academic affairs, student affairs, enrollment management, and institutional research.
- Demonstrated commitment to access and inclusive excellence, particularly in advancing success for firstgeneration, militaryconnected, transfer, adult, and neurodiverse students.
- Alignment with and support for the landgrant mission and publicserving values of the university.

| Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education |
- Experience working with or overseeing programs serving militaryaffiliated students, veterans, ROTC units, or federal educational partnerships.
- Experience with accessibility services, ADA compliance, or universal design for learning, including collaboration with disability services or faculty professional development on inclusive teaching practices.
- Demonstrated success implementing or scaling highimpact practices, such as undergraduate research, experiential learning, global learning, learning communities, or interdisciplinary pathways.
- Experience leveraging data analytics and student success technologies to improve academic outcomes, reduce gaps, or modernize undergraduate education.
- Experience with grantfunded initiatives, including Title III, HBCU, or other federally or externally supported academic success or undergraduate education projects.
- Experience representing academic units in systemlevel, state, or national higher education consortia or professional organizations.
