CTL Engineering is hiring for an Inspector / Resident Project Representative (RPR) / Project Manager | Construction Services!

We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for Inspector / Resident Project Representative (RPR) / Project Manager for our Construction Services Division who will play a key role in all aspects of construction administration, inspection and testing services for state (KYTC and INDOT), county, and local Clients. You'll be involved in the testing and construction inspection and/or administration aspects of wide variety of construction projects - primarily roadway/bridge but may also include: water/wastewater, water tank, aviation, commercial, and municipal utility/infrastructure sectors. You'll leverage your expertise in construction inspection and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies.

Highlights:

  • This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Dept. Manager.
  • Projects are typically in the greater Louisville area/northern Kentucky-southern Indiana region. Frequent travel within this region is expected.
  • Louisville and KYTC/INDOT large project experience is a strong plus.
  • The role is based out of our Shelbyville office - east of Louisville.
    • Typical travel radius: 90 miles from the Shelbyville office
    • Limited overnight travel - usually 10% of the time.
    • Primarily a day shift with less than 5% night work.
    • Work schedule: typically Monday through Friday, but occasional weekend opportunities (@ 1 Saturday/month during peak construction season).
    • You will receive mileage reimbursement for personal vehicle use.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
  • Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work on a variety of construction projects.
  • Perform construction administration and inspection services for state, county and local roadway and bridge projects and municipal utility or infrastructure projects.
  • Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
  • Inspect construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans and/or proposals on roadway, bridge, and vertical projects.
  • Verify plan quantities and track pay items and project budget.
  • Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner.
  • Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer with status updates or about non-conforming work.
  • Conduct quality control testing at project sites, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate and reinforcing steel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles.
  • Estimating experience is preferred/a plus.
  • Experience with materials and lab testing.
  • Experience with quality control testing and compliance specifications.
  • Experience with standard testing and observation methods.
  • Understanding of construction or engineering services.
  • Experience in performing quality control initiatives and performance testing.
  • Skill in lab reporting, writing reports and maintaining records.
  • Ability to manage projects with little/no supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability of monitoring construction and demolition environments.
  • Must be able to interact well with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather.
  • Ability to provide status updates independently.
  • Be quality-minded and client-focused.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Completed KYTC (or INDOT) Certified Technician program a strong plus
  • ACI Level 1 and Nuclear Density Gauge certifications preferred.
    • Nice to have certifications (but not required): ICC or NICET certifications.
  • EIT credentialing is a plus.
  • 5+ years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with road, bridge, and/or vertical construction specifications and previous field experience.
  • Fall protection training / not afraid of heights / experience wearing a harness a plus (for water tower projects).
  • Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction engineering services and inspection/testing.
  • Experience with field and laboratory testing of soil (DCP tests, proof rolling), concrete, asphalt, aggregate, etc.
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
