Overview

Responsible for oversight of substation engineering and consulting services for clients across the US. Main responsibilities include creating physical layout design deliverables. Projects range in size, complexity, and voltage class from small distribution equipment upgrades to large transmission projects


Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed physical design packages for electrical substations, including general arrangements, elevations, grounding plans, conduit layouts, and equipment installation details.
  • Perform design calculations such as grounding analysis, lightning protection, and conduit/cable sizing to support substation layouts.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with protection & control engineers, civil/structural teams, and other disciplines to ensure integrated and constructible designs.
  • Apply industry standards (e.g., IEEE, NEC, NESC) and utility-specific design criteria in all engineering work.
  • Support project execution by participating in design reviews, responding to RFIs, and providing construction support as needed.
  • Conduct site visits and field assessments to verify existing conditions and support design development.
  • Review vendor drawings and equipment submittals to ensure compliance with specifications and project requirements.
  • Assist in cost estimating, scheduling, and resource planning for substation projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers and drafters, providing technical guidance and quality oversight.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for design improvements, standardization, and increased efficiency.
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety standards, company policies, and quality procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from accredited program
  • Minimum 3 years related experience (completion of master's degree in related field may be substituted for one year of experience)
  • Professional Engineer registration strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with National Electrical Safety Code and IEEE / ANSI Standard
  • Strong preference for those with:
  • Excellent written & verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Capability of solving difficult problems that require adaptation and modification of standard approaches, techniques, procedures, and criteria

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation:Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.
