Summary

Responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the front counter including the Permit Technicians departmental support, administrative functions and responsibilities as established through departmental needs. Also responsible for high quality customer service to contractors and citizens.

Pay Range: $23.75 - $30.85 (Depending on qualifications and experience)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinate and perform multifunctional business and administrative functions for assigned department.

  • Supervise Permit Technicians, including evaluating their performance and have full hire/fire authority.

  • Provide and manage customer service-oriented work environment and diffuse conflicts.

  • Communicate and coordinate policies, practices and procedures with department managers, vendors, reporting agencies, clients, customers, and the public.

  • Analyze and document business processes and problems.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with contractors and suppliers.

  • Prepare reports and oversee projects/research.

  • Evaluate results and compose executive summaries for management staff.

  • Prepare, collect, research, and analyze data/statistics for monthly reports.

  • Implement plans and schedules to determine appropriate focus on objectives needing emphasis.

  • Trouble shoot and resolve departmental issues to ensure support services meet goals.

  • Conduct outreach to promote/educate the community.

  • Develop Permit Technician Operational Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and train staff accordingly.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree or equivalent coursework

  • 5 years related experience

Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field

  • 4-6 years of experience in customer service and/or administrative support

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Intermediate knowledge of business practices and procedures

  • Excellent skills in PC and systems applications

  • Excellent customer service and telephone etiquette skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills

  • Ability to multitask and meet set deadlines

  • Ability to adapt to various working environments

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a team environment

Licenses and Certifications

  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license

  • ICC Permit Technician in 6 months

  • ICC Zoning Inspector in 12 months

  • ICC International Property Maintenance in 18 months
