| Essential Job Duties |
The Assistant Men's Basketball Coach supports the comprehensive development, performance, and success of a Division I Men's Basketball program. This position plays a key role in coaching, recruiting, compliance, studentathlete development, and program operations. The coach is expected to uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and adherence to University,
ACC, and
NCAA regulations. Primary duties include but not limited to:
Recruiting & Scouting
- Assist with the identification, evaluation, and recruitment of prospective studentathletes.
- Support all aspects of oncampus recruiting visits.
- Contribute to scouting reports and talent assessments.
Coaching & Player Development
- Provide oncourt instruction focused on skill development, team philosophy, and competitive readiness.
- Promote studentathlete physical health and safety in collaboration with sports medicine and strength staff.
- Participate in coaches' meetings and help implement practice and game strategies.
StudentAthlete Support & Academic Oversight
- Advise studentathletes on academic expectations, eligibility, and personal conduct.
- Assist in monitoring academic progress, class attendance, and study hall participation.
- Support efforts to maintain a multiyear APR above 950 and promote retention, graduation, leadership development, and community engagement.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure full compliance with NCAA, ACC, and University policies and procedures.
- Attend required compliance education sessions and model integrity in all program operations.
- Apply rules and guidelines consistently and responsibly within the program.
Program Operations & Administration
- Assist with maintaining team statistics and interfacing with game officials.
- Participate in media relations activities, including interviews, press conferences, and public appearances.
- Support planning and execution of approved fundraising initiatives.
- Assist with budget preparation and operate within approved allocations.
- Contribute to scheduling of practices and competitions, coordinating with departmental staff and external partners.
- Assist with team travel logistics and monitor studentathlete conduct during travel.
- Work with student managers to ensure equipment needs are met for practices and competitions.
- Monitor equipment condition and request repairs or replacements as needed.
Community & Program Engagement
- Represent the program at clinics, camps, exhibitions, and community events.
- Support initiatives that enhance the visibility and reputation of the basketball program.

- Minimum of 7 years playing, coaching or work experience in a Collegiate Men's Basketball program.

- Minimum of 5 years successful coaching record at a Division 1 Men's Basketball program.
