Position Overview

Position Summary:
Eastern New Mexico University's Department of Music is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position starting in fall 2026. Teaching will include undergraduate courses in music education, including but not limited to Teaching Secondary School Music - Choral Emphasis, Teaching Secondary School Music - Instrumental Emphasis, Teaching Elementary School Music, Introduction to Music Education, and other teaching as appropriate to the applicant's experience, which may include Applied Lessons, Music Appreciation, and other music courses. This position affords coordination of nearly fifty music education students, and duties will include observation of student teaching/field experiences. Other duties include overseeing a community music academy, coordinating a summer music camp, and other duties as assigned by the Chair or Dean. This is a residential position with campus presence expected. Review of materials will begin May 1, 2026, and continue until the position is filled.

The Department of Music offers several degrees, including the Bachelor of Music Education degree - Choral with K-12 licensure, the Bachelor of Music Education degree- Instrumental with K-12 licensure, the Bachelor of Science in Music, and the Bachelor of Music in Performance degree - Instrumental, Piano, or Voice.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • 16-credit annual teaching load
  • Advise student academic progress
  • Administration of a new community music academy, including coordination of a summer music camp
  • Leadership for the music education program
  • Observation of student teaching/field experiences
  • Continued scholarly activity (publications, presentations, or creative work) is expected
  • Continued professional development is expected
  • Service to department, college, university committees, and professional organizations
  • Commitment to advancing the goals and mission of the department, including departmental assessment, strategic plans, curriculum development, and student recruitment and retention
  • Regular and predictable attendance required
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Doctorate degree in Music Education, ABD may be considered
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, advise, and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Consistent record of creative/scholarly activity
  • K-12 teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • University-level teaching experience
  • More than 5 years of K-12 teaching experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse learning and working environment.
  • Commitment to creating and maintaining external relationships for student internships

  • Work is sedentary in nature that at times requires exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
