Position Summary
The Research Project Manager ( RPM) will plan, organize, and evaluate the active industry, federal funded, and investigator-initiated studies and educational learning initiatives in Department of Neurology with particular focus on the development of the Center for Aging Brain Health and the Duke- UNC Alzheimer's Disease Research Center. The RPM will contribute substantively and independently to operationalizing the implementation of research processes and ensuring adherence to study protocols and compliance with data and security measures. The RPM will provide new hires with education and training of clinical research activities, regulations, and workflows specific to UNC and the clinical research roles and ensure detail-oriented and timely completion of all research, clinical, and education engagement deliverables, while meeting the highest standards of excellence.

The RPM will be responsible for:

  • Program planning, policy development, and evaluation
  • Developing, implementing and monitoring customizable competency-based onboarding learning and education plans for all trial studies. The customized plans provide a foundation for continuous competency that is presented to the Department Chair and other faculty throughout the project.
  • Convening the leadership team to oversee interdisciplinary efforts to support quality and educational management efforts and program implementation.
  • Collaborating with health care professionals and researchers by facilitating learning with developing innovative educational materials and team-oriented inter-professional educational opportunities.
  • Identifying and representing substantive research and educational issues with key leadership and funding agencies.
  • Working with unit leadership to further initiatives.
  • May be required to perform audits on open studies, monitor and support operations at one or more research locations.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Knowledge of research, regulatory compliance, and ability to understand a clinical protocol and research contracts.
  • Capable of independent decision making and maintaining orderly study records according to federal and University regulations.
  • Familiarity with databases and experience in creating administrative tools, developing and implementing new processes, and drafting standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, efficiently, and diplomatically, both orally and in writing.
  • Critical thinking skills for problem solving with strategic thinking capacity to drive the research studies while understanding the upstream and downstream implications of decisions that affect study timelines.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

  • Experience conducting or overseeing study audits, monitoring visits, and quality assurance processes.
  • Familiarity with neurodegenerative disease research, aging brain health, or Alzheimer's disease studies.
