Job Summary

The Privacy Analyst assists the Privacy Officer with oversight and conduct of the Privacy Program in a manner that meets or exceeds federal, state and/or industry requirements for such programs. The primary responsibility of the Privacy Analyst is to assist the Privacy Officer with the investigation, analysis and remediation of privacy incidents involving Corewell Health patients and/or Priority Health members. Investigation, analysis, and remediation of privacy incidents requires the gathering of relevant facts and information from Corewell Health/Priority Health staff members, documentation and performance of systematic analysis, and risk assessment and problem solving. The Privacy Analyst also provides consultation and operational guidance to departments within Corewell Health and Priority Health on privacy matters.

Essential Functions
  • With minimal supervision, investigates, documents and tracks routine and more complex privacy incidents in a thorough and timely manner and responds to and tracks privacy inquiries. From time to time, performs investigations at the direction of legal counsel and works with legal counsel in the course of such investigation to provide guidance, recommendations and other assistance as requested by legal counsel. In such cases, the employee will report directly to legal counsel as opposed to employee's up-line leadership, and such work with legal counsel shall be confidential and protected from disclosure by the attorney client privilege and work product protection.
  • Provides assistance to and works collaboratively with operational areas to develop and implement legal and regulatory risk mitigation measures.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of the privacy program and privacy policies and procedures as necessary to build and maintain an effective privacy program.
  • Tracks and reports trends of privacy incident activity and conducts current state analysis of privacy process/procedures for compliance.
  • Assists with the development and/or delivery of new hire, annual and focused training and education.
  • Coordinates and/or participates in targeted privacy projects and/or initiatives with other departments and operational areas.
  • Assists with scheduled and ad hoc projects, committees and meetings, as requested.
  • Conducts routine and targeted audits of electronic medical records and other electronic systems, to identify inappropriate uses/disclosures of patient/member information.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • 2 years or more working in health care privacy, compliance, or health information management field(s)

Preferred

  • 3 years of Health plan/health insurance operations, or health care delivery (clinical)
  • CRT-Healthcare Information & Management Systems, Certified (CPHIMS) Or
  • CRT-Healthcare Privacy Compliance, Certified (CHPC)
