SHOP WELDER

The Shop Welder at Six Side Supply is responsible for fitting, welding, and fabricating custom miscellaneous metal assemblies in a high-mix, low-volume fabrication environment. This role requires the ability to interpret drawings, problem-solve fit-up conditions, and execute precise welds across a wide variety of one-off and short-run projects.

Unlike production welding, this position demands adaptability, craftsmanship, and ownership of work from raw material through completed assembly.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:



  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in metal fabrication and welding
  • Familiarity with CNC plasma cutting and other metal cutting processes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and technical drawings
  • Experience with fitting and assembling metal components
  • Familiarity with operating grinders, torches, saws, brakes, shears, and other fabrication tools
  • Strong understanding of welding and fabrication safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements


Preferred:



  • AWS (American Welding Society) Certification or ability to obtain within 6 months
  • Proficiency in MIG welding processes
  • Familiarity with TIG welding processes
  • Experience working with structural and miscellaneous metals, including stairs, railings, and platforms
  • Knowledge of different metal materials and their welding and fabrication requirements
  • Previous experience in a fabrication shop environment
  • OSHA 10 certification

CORE RESPONSIBLITIES:

Fit-Up & Fabrication



  • Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, and weld symbols
  • Lay out, fit, and tack components to proper dimensions and tolerances
  • Verify measurements and alignment prior to welding
  • Identify and resolve fit-up issues independently or with supervision
  • Work across a variety of assemblies (stairs, rails, platforms, frames, etc.)


Welding Execution



  • Perform primarily MIG welding (TIG as required) on carbon steel and stainless
  • Execute welds that meet structural and visual requirements
  • Adjust settings based on material type, thickness, and position
  • Maintain consistency across weld passes and assemblies
  • Grind, clean, and finish welds as required by project specs


Shop Operations & Support



  • Operate fabrication equipment (saws, grinders, drills, torches, etc.)
  • Assist with material handling, staging, and loading
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Participate in continuous improvement and workflow efficiency
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members on job status



OFFICE AND TRAVEL:

Works in White Bear Lake miscellaneous shop.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands outlined here are representative of those required for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions.

This position requires prolonged periods of standing near equipment. The employee must be able to lift to 100 pounds as needed, demonstrate manual dexterity for working with controls, clamps, and tools. Ability to bend, twist, and move materials frequently. Tolerance for noisy and dusty environments with PPE

The role also requires occasional visits to construction sites, where the employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions, and extreme temperatures.

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $80,000-95,000, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, location, skills, education, and experience. Furthermore, we place significant value on pay equity among our current team members as part of any final job offer.

Please note that the range provided above reflects the hiring range for this role. Hiring near the top end of this range would be atypical, as we aim to allow room for future salary growth.
