Under the supervision of the UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals (BCH) Nurse Manager, the Clinical Nurse II - Practice Nurse in the Pediatric Hemophilia Treatment Center provides direct and indirect clinical care to pediatric outpatients with sickle cell and related hematologic disorders. Care is delivered through the systematic application of the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation), with all components individualized to meet the physiological, psychosocial, and developmental needs of each patient.

The Pediatric Sickle Cell Nurse performs ongoing assessments, modifies care plans as needed, and ensures continuity of care across inpatient, outpatient, home care, and multidisciplinary provider settings. The role is actively involved in patient, staff, and provider education and participates in clinical research activities, incorporating evidence-based findings into care planning and implementation.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of three (3) years of RN experience, including at least one (1) year of Hematology/Oncology RN experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills required to successfully perform the duties of the position
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to communicate calmly and effectively in complex situations
  • Proficiency in navigating and documenting within multiple electronic systems

Licensure and Certifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association (AHA) CPR certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to appropriately triage Hematology patients via telephone and in person
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Master's degree in Nursing with a pediatric focus
  • At least one (1) year of outpatient clinic experience
  • Two (2) years of outpatient sickle cell RN experience

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
