Major Duties

The Field Operations Specialist should have the ability to perform and instruct advance knowledge of telephone plant, copper, fiber and/or coax cable to educate Field Operations technicians on new products, services, CPE, and technology. Conducts training in classroom environments, video conferencing, and in the field. Technical trainer must be extremely knowledgeable in their field of expertise and pose solid technical aptitude.
Responsibilities
- Provide training on practical networking concepts including IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, NAT, routed and switched networks, VLAN fundamentals, and wired / wireless connectivity troubleshooting.
- Support technician readiness for Wi-Fi technologies and best practices, including Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E, and Wi-Fi 7, with emphasis on coverage, interference, placement, roaming, and performance expectations.
- Train technicians on fiber-based products and services, CPE, installation standards, troubleshooting practices, and customer experience expectations across residential and business customer environments.
Mesh networks, Multiple Ap's, Dark Fiber
- Development and implement technical training programs according to Enterprise Operation Training requirements.
- Produce training schedules and classroom agenda. Determine course content according to objectives. Utilize current training content and materials. Prepare training materials (presentations, worksheets, and other materials).
- Participate in User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
- Quality review in the field of technician work functions including all aspect of customer service or operational best practices
- Deliver training sessions, webinars, workshops, etc. in groups or individual settings.
- Keeps and reports data on completed courses. Observes and evaluate results of the training program.
- Determines overall effectiveness of the programs and makes improvements in coordination with co-workers.
- Working knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, and especially PowerPoint.
- Outstanding communication skills and comfortable speaking to crowds. Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
- Acts as initial contact for members of the public with the Company and is expected to act as public spokesperson for the Company, often explaining difficult or complicated information. Must maintain a neat appearance in accordance with Company policy.
- Completes various reports including daily time and material requests and/or service orders.
- May encounter situations in certain field environments where knowledge of ladders, gaffs, hooks, utility pole climbing practices, truck-mounted aerial lifts, or extension ladders is relevant.
- Attend training seminars and workshops to enhance job related skills and to learn about new products, systems and techniques. Travel may require more than one day, including a weekend day. Air or ground transportation may be used, depending on distance traveled.
- Adheres to company safety policies and practices. Attends required safety and training classes, and maintains a satisfactory safety record.
- Reports to work on time and maintains a satisfactory attendance record.
Qualifications
Work experience:
- Minimum (5) five or more years' experience in telecommunications field preferred including one or more of the following: Construction, Splicing, Field Services, ADP, or other Plant Operations related groups.
- Typically has experience in multiple Plant Operations areas. May perform all essential fiber and copper functions in Plant Operations.
Education or equivalent:
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Trade/vocational tech specialization or 2-year technical or related college degree preferred.
- License Required: Valid State Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record.
Professional knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of fiber-based service delivery, customer premises equipment, and field installation / troubleshooting practices.
- Practical knowledge of business and enterprise customer environments, including structured cabling, demarcation, gateway configuration, and customer handoff considerations.
- Working knowledge of core networking concepts including TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6, DHCP, DNS, NAT, LAN / WAN fundamentals, switching, routing, and VLANs.
- Working knowledge of wireless networking principles, including SSIDs, band steering, channel planning, interference, signal quality, device behavior, and modern Wi-Fi standards such as Wi-Fi 6 / 6E / 7.
- Ability to explain technical networking and Wi-Fi concepts in a way that is understandable and actionable for field technicians and front-line teams.
- Must be able to read and understand plant facility maps and work prints.
- Must have advanced knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) specifications for installation of all plant facilities.
- Ability to handle administrative tasks such as tracking maintenance repairs/returns, maintaining records, and filling out requests for equipment and supplies.
- Familiar with computers and related hardware/software programs, dispatch systems, service order databases and electronic operational systems.
- Knowledge of equipment and steps related to the installation of cable and conduit at customer sites (residential and commercial).
- Advanced knowledge of electronics, power systems and grounding.
- Familiar with backup power methods such as batteries including proper handling, maintenance and disposal.
- Must have good mechanical aptitude.
- Proficient working knowledge of equipment and steps related to the maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of voice, network and/or data installation at customer sites (residential and commercial).
Certifications & Technical training:
- Depending on job assignment, may require Custom Electronics Design & Installation Association (CEDIA) certification for the installation of home entertainment equipment and related hardware/software programs
- System Studies training for plant operations in support of cable pressurization

Salary
Pay range (commensurate with skills and experience): $65,000 - $105,000 Annual Salary
