The Opportunity Lipscomb Academy Upper School seeks a compassionate, relational, and Christ-centered Dean of Students to join our leadership team. The Dean of Students will play a pivotal role in cultivating a positive school climate, supporting students' social, emotional, and behavioral growth, and fostering a safe, inclusive, and joyful learning environment. This leader will work closely with the Principal, Assistant Principal, Assistant Dean of Student Leadership, counselors, and families to ensure every student is known, valued, and supported. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a visible, approachable, and friendly presence for students throughout the school day and at extracurricular events.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with students, modeling Christ-like character and servant leadership in all interactions.
- Address student infractions with fairness, consistency, and restorative approaches, always seeking to guide students toward growth and reconciliation.
- Collaborate with counselors and families to support students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs, developing individualized plans as needed.
- Partner with the Head of Upper School, Assistant Head of Upper School, Mustang Life, and others to advance the school's mission and maintain a positive, orderly school environment.
- Coordinate detention, ISS, and Saturday School as needed.
- Oversee and maintain the Mustang Life room and attend Mustang Life events.
- Lead initiatives and programs that promote a positive school climate, student well-being, and a sense of belonging for all students.
- Welcome new students and help onboard them to our school.
- Attend and monitor student behavior at some extracurricular events, ensuring a safe and respectful environment.
- Communicate proactively and effectively with students, families, and staff regarding behavioral expectations, school policies, and student support resources.
- Contribute to continuous school improvement through data-informed decision-making and innovative thinking.
- Integrate a biblical worldview into daily interactions, discipline, and decision-making, mentoring students in faith, character, and service.
Qualifications
- A deep commitment to Lipscomb Academy's Christian mission and the ability to model and mentor faith and character.
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Experience working with high school students in a school or counseling setting.
- Demonstrated skill in student discipline, restorative practices, and positive behavior support.
- Strong understanding of adolescent development, social-emotional learning, and family engagement.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
- A friendly, approachable, and relational leadership style.
- Experience collaborating with school counselors, administrators, and families.
- Ability to attend and supervise extracurricular events as part of the school leadership team.
- Proficiency with educational technology and data-informed student support.
