Temporary Farm Animal Care Worker
ANIMAL SCIENCE PROGRAM, University of Minnesota Crookston

POSITION: Up to two temporary (summer) positions to provide livestock care and farm building, fence and equipment maintenance on the University of Minnesota Crookston campus. Pay rate: $20.00 per hour, non-exempt. Applicants must be willing to work holidays and weekends as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist with general livestock and horse farm operations including, but not limited to:
* Daily feeding and watering of cattle, goats, sheep and horses.
* Moving livestock and horses to pasture areas.
* Observing livestock and horses for signs of illness and injury and report observations to supervisor.
* Assist in handling livestock and horses for health care needs.
* Sweeping barn aisles.
* Scraping cattle, sheep and goat pens.
* Cleaning horse stalls.
* Dusting, cobwebbing, and pressure washing barns.
* Cleaning office and storage areas.
* Maintaining fencelines by repairing fence and weed whipping vegetation.
* Observe deficiencies in building hardware, doors, windows, and other facilities and report deficiencies to supervisor.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the assignment including the ability to lift 50 lbs. and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Ability to interact in a public setting in a respectful and professional manner. Ability to read, write and understand English. Final job offer contingent upon complete background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience handling livestock. Experience operating a skid steer

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.00 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
