Reporting to the University Librarian and Chancellor, through the Campus Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) Campus Designee, the Repatriation Coordinator is the Campus' official point of contact for tribes and tribal members concerning collaborations on all matters related to NAGPRA and CalNAGPRA, including consultation, repatriation, disposition, and access to Native American and Native Hawaiian human remains and cultural items. The Repatriation Coordinator is responsible for ensuring UC Riverside adheres to and complies with UCOP's Native American Cultural Affiliation and Repatriation Policy and all associated state and federal laws. Develop and implement an outreach program to proactively engage Native American communities in NAGPRA consultations. Oversee and make recommendations to the UC Riverside NAGPRA Implementation Committee on compliance with applicable laws and UC NAGPRA policy. Report NAGPRA and CalNAGPRA activities to committee regularly as required by UC Policy and receive feedback and guidance from committee members. Coordinate with Federal Agencies for collections curated by the UC Riverside to promote proactive compliance with NAGPRA. Lead appropriate human remains and collections documentation efforts and generate relevant reports including NAGPRA Inventories and Federal Register Notices of Inventory Completion. Review, analyze and synthesize available data from scientific, anthropological, historic, and traditional forms of knowledge to inform cultural affiliation determinations. Manage administrative aspects of NAGPRA Program including developing strategic work plan, supervising students, and developing and overseeing project budget. Manage special projects including developing and maintaining a UC Riverside NAGPRA website; identifying and applying for grants to support the NAGPRA project; and delivering professional and public presentations on the UC Riverside NAGPRA compliance program. Serve as primary resource and campus expert for staff and Faculty regarding tribal relations. Manage the UCR NAGPRA- and CalNAGPRA-eligible collections, maintain current and accurate digital catalog records of collections, ensure that repository space meets UC Policy and consult with tribal representatives on culturally appropriate storage. The Repatriation Coordinator must have an in-depth, demonstrated understanding of and direct experience with: (a) tribal consultation practices and processes, b) initiating, building and maintaining positive working relationships with tribes and tribal members; and (c) NAGPRA and CalNAGPRA. Uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of functional practices and policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Cultivates internal and external contacts.

The full salary range for the NAGPRA Repatriation Coordinator is $103,100 - $196,300 annually. However, the expected pay for this position is up to $128,000 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.
