Job Summary The Student Services Specialist Sr. in Financial Aid independently performs complex financial aid functions, including determining and awarding federal, state, and institutional funds across multiple programs. This role is responsible for interpreting and applying federal and institutional regulations, ensuring compliance while exercising professional judgement in student eligibility and award decisions. The position provides high-level counseling to students and parents regarding financial aid processes, policies, and regulatory requirements. It also supports financial aid programs, maintains and improves office workflows, and ensures consistent implementation of policies and procedures. The Student Services Specialist Sr. may also lead and direct the work of student employees and temporary staff, and collaborate with administrators, faculty, and staff to support student success. This role also represents the office through presentations and outreach to a large range of audiences. Essential Functions 35% - Processes student records, applications, and supporting documentation. Evaluates information to determine eligibility and administer Title IV aid and other financial aid programs in compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and regulations. 20% - Responds to inquiries and resolves escalated or complex student issues using detailed knowledge of program requirements, policies, and procedures. 15% - Performs more complex or sensitive program-related functions requiring analysis, interpretation of guidelines, and application of professional judgment. Plans, organizes, and delivers financial aid presentations and outreach activities. 10% - Assists in coordinating daily operations and workflow to ensure consistent application of policies, procedures, and service standards. 10% - Generates, reviews, and maintains reports and records to track activity, identify discrepancies, and support timely and accurate processing. 10% - Researches and interprets applicable regulations and guidelines. Provides training and guidance to staff and supports initiatives to improve service delivery and student outcomes. Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of student services or college teaching experience or experience assisting with educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs. OR An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered. Desired Qualifications 1. Bachelor's degree in a related field such as education, business or accounting. 2. Experience working in a structured environment involving policies, procedures, or eligibility-based decision-making (financial aid or similar programs preferred). 3. Experience providing service to students and families in a financial aid and/or one stop environment. 4. Experience reviewing documentation and applying guidelines to determine outcomes or next steps. 5. Experience providing customer service in a high-volume environment, including resolving escalated or complex issues. 6. One year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years. **** Experience within other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued and may be considered in addition to MCCCD experience.
