Job Description

The University of Missouri Museum of Art and Archeology seeks a part-time Senior Museum Operations Specialist. Museum Associates, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that, for 50 years, has supported the museum through a membership program, various fundraising events, its Museum Store, and other fundraising opportunities. Museum Associates is largely volunteer run. This position coordinates organizational tasks that allow the museum, the Museum Associates' volunteer board of directors, and membership at large to engage in activities that support the museum.

Reporting to the director and the deputy director of the Museum of Art and Archaeology and in coordination with the president of the board of directors of Museum Associates, the coordinator is responsible for the following:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Membership Program & Engagement Operations
  • Maintain the membership program, including database management, renewals, member communications, and customer service
  • Support membership growth and retention efforts through outreach, targeted campaigns, and engagement activities
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for members, sponsors, and prospective supporters
  • Marketing & Communications
  • Develop, maintain, and distribute communications for Museum Associates and the Museum, including newsletters, email campaigns, web content, and promotional materials
  • Support marketing and promotional efforts for events, fundraising activities, and the Museum Store (i.e., membership brochures, special sales, general advertising, etc)
  • Prepare and coordinate annual and periodic reports and communications for members.
  • Museum Associates & Board Support
  • Provide administrative and operational support to Museum Associates, including board governance support (agendas, minutes, meetings) and coordination with the volunteer board, the Board president
  • Assist with fundraising activities, events, and donor-related initiatives
  • Coordinate Museum Store staffing and operations, including volunteer scheduling and coverage as needed
  • Fiscal & Administrative Support (placeholder for your build-out)
  • Support fiscal operations for Museum Associates and the Museum, including financial tracking, purchasing, reconciliations, reporting, and coordination with university systems and fiscal partners
  • Museum Operations Support
  • Provide administrative and operational support to the Museum's director, deputy director, and educator as needed
  • Assist with museum-wide marketing activities and events
  • Participate in regular Museum and joint leadership meetings with Museum Associates' Board President
Shift

The schedule of work is flexible and may vary, including some evenings and weekends. On average, this position can expect to work approximately 28 hours each week (approximately 15-20 for Museum Associates and 5-13 hours for the Museum of Art and Archaeology), but some weeks may be more or less depending on the time of year and various project deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

  • A demonstrated interest and experience in nonprofit management and/or fundraising, with budget management experience
  • The ability to work independently and exercise excellent judgement
  • Strong communication and excellent writing skills
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Excel or other data entry programs, CRM programs, and email marketing platforms
  • Excellent attention to detail, advanced organizational skills, and discretion when working with sensitive and confidential materials
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary: $20 per hour

Grade: GGS - 008

Other Information

This is an on-site position located on the campus of the University of Missouri-Columbia. Applicants must reside in the state of Missouri or be willing to relocate prior to the hire date.
