THE POSITION

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources is looking for a Maintenance Repairman 2 who enjoys solving problems and working with a wide range of tools and equipment. This position helps keep forest buildings, grounds, and structures safe and functional for everyone to enjoy. Your work will support the mission of caring for Pennsylvania forests and public spaces.


DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will support the upkeep and improvement of forest district facilities and natural areas. The work involves maintenance, repair, construction, equipment operation, and support during wildfire and general district activities. As a Maintenance Repairman 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Maintenance Skills: Repair building components, complete painting tasks, and work with masonry, roofing, and metal fabrication
  • Equipment Operation: Operate and maintain trucks, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles, spray systems, and hand tools
  • Forest Support: Assist with planting, wildlife openings, herbicide application, tree shelters, and fencing repairs
  • Fire Protection: Patrol for wildfires, support suppression operations, complete fire reports, and aid in prevention activities
  • District Assistance: Support training, purchasing, search and rescue, and act as a lead worker when assigned

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • During Spring fire season, the schedule will change to Monday - Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years of experience as a Maintenance Repairman 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in building and plant maintenance work, which has involved at least two of the building, electrical, or mechanical trades; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training that affords the applicant with the Required Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License.

Other Requirements:

  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • This position will require you to obtain a Pennsylvania Forest Fire Warden Certification upon hire.
