THE POSITION

Become the next Deputy Communications Director 2 for the Department of Conservation & Natural Resources. This role lets you guide the way information is shared with visitors and residents throughout the state. You will support efforts that highlight natural resources and public programs. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This role leads communication efforts that support public understanding and engagement across the agency. It brings together writing, planning, and coordination to promote consistent messaging. As a Deputy Communications Director 2, you will perform the following duties:

  • Media Preparation: Prepare informational and educational materials for wide public use
  • Communication Strategy: Support planning and coordination of agency communication efforts
  • Brand Oversight: Guide a consistent creative style across agency properties
  • Content Development: Write and edit releases, speeches, and digital material of high visibility
  • Event Support: Assist with planning and executing media events such as conferences and ceremonies
  • Photo Management: Help maintain organized photographic records of agency activities

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 2 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Four years of experience in preparing public relations promotion through all media; and a bachelor's degree with major course work in journalism, communications, English, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • You must have experience writing and editing public-facing communications such as news releases, talking points, webpages, or social media content.
  • You must have experience managing or coordinating communications projects.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):
  • Experience developing or supporting media events (e.g., press conferences, ribbon cuttings, public announcements).
  • Experience with brand management or implementing visual/creative standards across an organization.
  • Experience in photography, digital content creation, or with tools such as Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience supporting executive-level leadership by preparing written materials for senior officials
