  • The Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is a high-acuity, fast-paced recovery environment dedicated to delivering safe, efficient, and compassionate care to patients emerging from anesthesia following surgical, interventional, and diagnostic procedures. As an essential member of the perioperative team, the PACU Registered Nurse plays a critical role in ensuring safe recovery, effective symptom management, and an exceptional patient experience during the most vulnerable phases of postoperative care.
  • PACU Registered Nurses are responsible for rapid, comprehensive patient assessment upon arrival from the operating or procedure room, vigilantly monitoring airway stability, hemodynamics, neurological status, pain control, and potential postanesthesia complications. They anticipate patient needs, collaborate closely with anesthesia providers and surgeons, and provide continuous, focused support to ensure a smooth transition from anesthesia to Phase I or Phase II recovery. Responsibilities include managing airway support, titrating medications, addressing nausea and pain, educating patients and families, and preparing individuals for discharge or transfer to inpatient care.
  • The PACU environment requires strong critical thinking and excellent communication. Qualifications:

Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).

Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.

Certifications:

- Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
