The Opportunity:

The University of Central Florida's College of Medicine is hiring a Laboratory Technician I. The Laboratory Technician I is responsible for ensuring the laboratory component of designated undergraduate microbiology courses function smoothly, as per requests from the faculty member(s) responsible for the courses. This position is also responsible for preparing, setting up, and breaking down of the Microbiology Laboratories.

Responsibilities:


  • Prepare, clean, and sterilize glassware and instruments, prepare sterile solutions for use in microbial assays, and prepare solutions, reagents and media following standard laboratory procedures utilizing equipment including, but not limited to: Dishwasher, Autoclaves, Balance, Unispense Pro (tube dispensing), Hot Plate, PH Meter, Water Bath, Masterclave 09, Masterclave 528, Pourmatic, Fume Hood, Freezer(-20), Freezer(-80),Shaker, Microscope, Incubators, ProPipetors, Walk in Cooler, and Bunsen Burners.

  • Maintain teaching labs and collect materials after labs are completed, assist in the set-up of the General Micro (MCB 3020L) lab practical, and report any problems pertaining to Microbiology Labs to the Prep Room Lab Manager.

  • Assist in maintaining inventory supplies and lab equipment, assist in supervising work study students to ensure proper lab protocols are being followed, and assist the Sr. Laboratory Technician.

  • Dispose of biohazard materials after labs are completed and use sterile techniques to avoid contaminating laboratory experiments, and keep Lab classrooms and Prep area clean and organized.

  • Complete mandatory college and university training and other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or Equivalent and 0+ years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience working in a Microbiology lab, or similar field.

  • Background in life science laboratory coursework.

  • Experience maintaining lab equipment and inventory supplies.

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biological Sciences, Life Sciences, or a related field.


Special Instructions to the Applicants:


  • The anticipated hourly rate for this position is $15.66 - $17.23. The final rate will be determined based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, and internal equity considerations.

  • All applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position, and the university cannot accommodate H1B transfers or employment-based visa processing for individuals currently sponsored by another employer.
