The Marine Assembly Technician & Welder performs a variety of assembly operations to assemble small, medium and large sized precision units or sub-assemblies involving a considerable number of parts. Products are usually standardized as to design and function, and assembly methods applied are generally standardized.

Assembly Technician essential duties & responsibilities:

  • Set-up, calibrate precision measuring equipment and measure precision parts and assemblies to tolerances of .0002", record all actual data, complete and sign inspection reports which are sent to the customer.
  • Visually inspects final components, complete final inspection reports as required.
  • Performs stock room duties which include inventory cycle counting, receipt of material, and release of material to orders.
  • Performs boxing of parts to include cleaning, oiling, wrapping, and boxing of final product for shipment.
  • Performs cleaning, fitting, filing, tapping, reaming, blending, polishing, and aligning to ensure free action of movable parts and operating requirements.
  • Works from drawings, blueprints, and written specifications.
  • Uses precision measuring instruments & gauging devices, and performs various quality inspection type procedures to include dimensional verification and nondestructive testing.
  • Properly marks bearings during/after assembly.
  • Installs various instrumentation components per drawing requirements.
  • Assemble required paperwork and equipment to perform source inspections with the government and/or customer.
  • Gather required drawings and / or specifications, travel to and perform source inspections at vendor's location.
  • Must be able to be qualified to silver solder per applicable procedures.
  • Must gather testing data, process the data, generate required graphs, and analyze the information for acceptance.
  • As required, works with customer representatives or travels to customers to provide training, problem solving, or developing processes to ensure quality of final assembled product.
  • Must be able to handle a variety of material handling equipment (overhead cranes, forklift etc.).
  • Must be able and willing to travel out of town on short notice (4 hours) for extended periods of time (weeks).
    International travel may be required and will require a passport.
  • Must be able to oversee and provide guidance for disassembly and assembly of bearings installed at customer's location.

Welding essential duties & responsibilities:

  • Check drawing and process sheets for validity.
  • Perform set-up, assemble and tack weld all items as a unit making sure that pieces are of correct size, quantity, and type of material.
  • Checks weld for proper size fillet, appearance and quality.
  • Use burning torch to cut material as required.
  • Make temporary set-up fixtures and gauges as required.
  • Heats material to bend or straighten parts.
  • Perform welds and maintain records to ensure certification qualifications are kept current.
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers on all proto-type welds.
  • Responsible for turning in rate changes (low or high).
  • Ability to set up, program and run the induction hardening machine
  • Check, edit and adjust canned cycle programs and needed to achieve hardness specifications.
  • Able to set up and run small tempering oven
  • Verify part hardness and make process adjustments to achieve specifications.
