Gatehouse Attendant

Location: Chaska, MN (Onsite) Landscape Arboretum

Schedule: Up to 14 hours/week (Includes some evenings and weekends)
Hourly Rate: $18.00/hour

Overview
The University of Minnesota Landscape Arboretum delights and inspires hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. As a Gatehouse Attendant, you are a visitor's very first touchpoint, playing a critical role in delivering world-class guest service and engagement to a diverse audience.
Gatehouse attendants work closely with team leads, managers and the entire Guest Services Team to ensure every visitor starts their journey with a warm welcome and a seamless entry.

Responsibilities
90% Greet Guests & Collect Admission Fees

  • Guest Reception: Greet visitors in a personable, approachable, and professional manner.
  • Entry Processing: Manage gate entries for members, non-members, private events, and classes according to established policies.
  • Expert Guidance: Provide initial wayfinding, general Arboretum information, and direct event attendees to their specific locations.
  • Sales & Promotion: Promotel Arboretum memberships to non-member visitors.
  • Transaction Handling: Process credit card transactions accurately using our Point of Sale (POS) system.
  • Stay Informed: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of daily operations, activities, and emergency procedures via internal communications.

10% Reporting & Reconciliation

  • Daily Reporting: Verify and reconcile daily activity reports at the end of each shift.
  • Data Tracking: Accurately track visitor counts, discount tickets, and group attendance using established procedures.

Work Environment
All work is performed in-person and onsite in Chaska. This role requires the ability to work in varied weather conditions and stand for the extended periods during a shift to ensure visitors are admitted efficiently.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Proven ability to interact with the public in a respectful, professional, and inclusive manner.
  • Strong communication skills: Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • A foundational knowledge of the Arboretum's mission, vision, and values.
  • Physical Requirement: Ability to stand continuously for 4-6 hours.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a high-volume, customer-service-oriented environment with diverse clientele.
  • Previous experience working in an arboretum, nature center, or park system.
  • Previous experience operating POS (Point of Sale) systems.
  • Familiarity with the Landscape Arboretum's specific programs, grounds, and buildings
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $18.00 per hour, depending on education/qualifications/experience.
