DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position plays a key role in supporting the health, safety, and proper monitoring of horses at Presque Isle Downs. It involves supervising medical procedures, inspections, and record keeping to ensure compliance with the rules of racing. As a State Veterinarian, you will perform the following duties:
- Test Barn Oversight: Supervise sample collection, manage records, and guide personnel in the post race detention barn
- Pre-Race Monitoring: Review eligible horses, supervise staff, and oversee proper administration of bleeder medication
- Health Inspections: Conduct examinations of ship in horses and ensure accurate documentation of findings
- Race Day Presence: Observe horses in the paddock, during racing, and at the finish line to evaluate condition
- Medical Decisions: Assess horses for respiratory bleeding, manage the Veterinarian's List, and administer emergency care when needed
- Regulatory Support: Attend hearings and resolve issues related to horse qualification for bleeder medication

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- Graduation from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor program.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a valid license to practice veterinary medicine as issued by a State Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
Post Employment Requirement:
- Possession of a Commission Employee License
