Equipment Operator B - Tuscarora Forest District, Perry County

The Equipment Operator B position with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources offers a chance to work in the spender of Tuscarora Forest District and support the care of Pennsylvania's public lands. This role provides hands-on experience with large equipment while helping maintain beautiful forest areas for visitors. This position focuses on operating heavy equipment and contributing to the upkeep of Tuscarora Forest District. As a Equipment Operator B, you will perform the following duties:

• Equipment Operation: Operate graders, backhoes, bulldozers, rollers, forklifts, and large loaders for construction and maintenance tasks
• Vehicle Handling: Drive heavy vehicles such as dump trucks, tankers, and tractor trailers for various work operations
• Grounds Work: Perform manual labor and assist with forestry grounds, picnic areas, and facilities maintenance
• Equipment Care: Complete inspections, perform preventive maintenance, and handle minor repairs on assigned equipment
• Fire Support: Assist with fire prevention, suppression activities, and prescribed fire efforts
• Project Assistance: Support district programs including tree removal, surveying, seeding, erosion control, and wildlife projects

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• This is a seasonal, full-time position with no healthcare benefits. There is not an option to buy into health care benefits. The season runs from approximately March 2026 until November 2026 at which time the employee will be placed on leave without pay. The employee will automatically be returned to employment March 2027.

• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Wednesday, 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Thursday, with a 30-minute lunch.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more; or
• Any equivalent combination of experience or training.

Special Requirements:

• This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.

Conditions of Employment:

• This position requires possession of a Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement and air brake restriction removed.
