At Idaho National Laboratory, your quality engineering expertise will safeguard the reliability and compliance of nuclear and advanced energy systems. You'll conduct program reviews, develop inspection plans, resolve facility compliance issues, and provide technical guidance across Idaho National Laboratory's most complex projects-driving continuous improvement while ensuring every structure, system, and component meets the rigorous standards that nuclear research demands.

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Construction Quality Engineer to work in our Environment, Safety, Health and Quality department. Our team works onsite with a 4x10 schedule located out of our desert site Central Facilities Area (CFA) in Idaho with every Friday off. You will report to the Construction Quality Manager, and you will support the INL Quality Assurance organization as assigned to support construction activities at the INL.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Review construction and engineering specifications and related documents, work planning, operation and maintenance instructions, and procurement documents for compliance to Program/Project and INL quality requirements; provide recommendations for solutions to quality compliance and implementation issues; determine appropriate inspection hold points in processes and procedures, and prepare inspection plans; issue and track nonconformance and other deficiency reports through closure; oversee configuration and records management activities.
  • Develop and continuously improve QA plans and procedures; provide improvement suggestions on INL quality-related documents; interface with and provide quality-related input to technical staff and management, and interface with internal and some external customers and participants in quality-related matters.
  • Conduct independent QA assessments and surveillances with peers and management to ensure that facility project activities and related documentation maintain consistency.
  • Maintain proficiency and required training and qualification for quality engineering responsibilities and participate in professional development activities.
  • Conduct quality program reviews for applicable activities to ensure adequate quality requirements are identified and incorporated.
  • Establish protocols for inspection basis and nonconformance conditions.
  • Provide technical expertise, assistance, and advice to program, project, facility management, and personnel relative to quality compliance and implementation issues. Interact with facility senior management on significant matters requiring coordination across organizational lines.
  • Provide input to subject matter experts and functional area managers to promote continuous improvement in INL Quality and related processes.
  • Interface with internal and external customers to determine that needs are being met.
  • Maintain a complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, and practices required for delivering quality techniques and tools.
  • Maintain required training and proficiency per training plan.

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in technical field related to Quality (Chemistry, Engineering, or related field) and (2) years of relevant experience or Masters Degree in (Chemistry, Engineering, or related field) or in lieu of degree High School and (8) years of relevant experience.
  • Related experience includes: experience with construction quality control or quality assurance activities.
  • Must be able to obtain BEA Quality Engineer certification.
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Advanced degree in technical field related to Quality (Chemistry, Engineering, or related field).
  • Experience with the following codes/standards: AASHTO, ACI, AISC, ASME, AWS and RCSC.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use stairs, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in confined spaces. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is ($66,504 - $136,356). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
