Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Software Architect to support enterprise application architecture initiatives on a large-scale contract. This role is responsible for designing, modernizing, and guiding the implementation of complex software systems across the organization. The ideal candidate brings strong expertise in application architecture, including restructuring legacy monolithic systems into scalable, modular solutions, deep proficiency across modern programming languages and frameworks, and working familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS to inform deployment and runtime decisions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and evolution of enterprise-level application architectures aligned with business and technical strategies
  • Assess existing systems and define roadmaps for modernization, including decomposition of monolithic applications into microservices or modular architectures
  • Define domain models, service boundaries, and integration patterns that support long-term maintainability and reuse
  • Design and oversee integration strategies between enterprise systems, including Salesforce and other internal/external platforms
  • Establish API standards (REST, event-driven, and message-based) and govern their consistent adoption across teams
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to development teams on best practices in system design, coding standards, design patterns, and testing strategies
  • Define and enforce architectural standards, governance, and documentation
  • Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, security, and business stakeholders to ensure architectural alignment
  • Partner with cloud and infrastructure teams to ensure applications are designed for cloud deployment, scalability, and resilience
  • Ensure solutions meet non-functional requirements such as performance, scalability, security, and maintainability

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 7+ years of experience in software development, with at least 3+ years in an architecture role
  • Strong understanding of application architecture patterns, including monolithic, microservices, and service-oriented architecture (SOA)
  • Proven experience refactoring or modernizing legacy/monolithic applications
  • Expertise in designing distributed systems and APIs (RESTful and event-driven architectures)
  • Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript) and associated frameworks
  • Solid grounding in object-oriented design, design patterns, and domain-driven design
  • Experience with relational and non-relational data stores and data modeling for distributed applications
  • Working knowledge of AWS services (e.g., EC2, Lambda, S3, RDS, API Gateway) sufficient to make informed deployment and runtime architectural decisions
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to balance technical and business considerations

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Salesforce architecture, including integrations and data models
  • Familiarity with enterprise integration tools (e.g., MuleSoft, Kafka)
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or AWS Certified Developer - Associate (or equivalent cloud certification)
  • Experience working in government or large enterprise contract environments
  • Knowledge of security frameworks and compliance standards (e.g., NIST, FedRAMP, SOC 2)

Key Competencies

  • Strategic thinking with strong technical depth
  • Ability to communicate complex architectural concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Strong leadership and collaboration skills
  • Adaptability in fast-paced, evolving environments

What Success Looks Like

  • Successful transformation of legacy systems into scalable, maintainable architectures
  • Clear and actionable architectural roadmaps aligned with enterprise goals
  • Improved system performance, reliability, and developer productivity
  • Strong alignment between engineering execution and business objectives
