How You'll Make An Impact

The Strategic Communications Manager leads the Aptima external strategic communications function. This role is critical to externally communicating our tech-enabled services, building brand trust and reputation, and managing stakeholder perception.

You will lead activities related to strategy development, branding, podcasts, social media and website content management, event management, artifact development (brochures, demo videos, conference materials), PR, and demonstration and video creation.

You will have the unique opportunity to collaborate closely with stakeholders and partners across the entire organization including executives, senior managers, technical teams, and business development managers. Your scope will be multifaceted with goals including to improve and maintain brand recognition in the defense sector, position the company as a trusted provider of tech-enabled services, support recruiting and retention, and collaborate and strategize with the business development team.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy and Leadership

  • Manage the strategic communications strategy in alignment with Aptima's corporate goals.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring to junior staff and interns.
  • Direct support partners and/or consultants.
  • Collaborate with senior and executive leaders.

Manage Day-to-Day Strategic Communications Activities

  • Manage company branding activities, the company website, corporate podcasts, and coordinate blog postings.
  • Oversee Aptima's social media presence while staying compliant with security and government regulations.
  • Coordinate conference sponsorships and exhibits.
  • Manage the Aptima corporate store.
  • Monitor, log, and propagate S&T news, conference presentations, and publications.
  • Manage the creation of external facing materials (capability statements, brochures, presentations, booth materials, white papers).
  • Develop messaging that explains complex technical services clearly.
  • Collaborate with People Operations to attract top talent, particularly for hard-to-fill technical roles.
  • Promote company differentiators like certifications, clearances, or specialized capabilities.
  • Provide proposal and capture support (e.g., executive summaries, ensure branding across submissions, and assist with proposal graphics).
  • Coordinate with business development on the creation of technology demos and videos.
  • Manage the strategic communications budget.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 7+ years of Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related work experience with a demonstrated track record in strategic planning and execution within corporate communications.
  • Top-notch writing, storytelling, and presentation skills are a must.
  • Experience working directly with C-level executives and SVPs, coupled with 7+ years of relevant communications experience with a focus on strategic planning within corporate communications, public relations, product marketing, or strategy consulting.
  • Specialization in digital, PR, content, and branding.
  • Strong ability to understand technology and impact on Department of War outcomes, with demonstrated ability to translate complex topics into compelling stories that are expressed in written, spoken, and visual formats.
  • Analytical approach to identifying trending topics and issues with a defined point of view.
  • Detail-oriented approach to managing multiple, high-profile projects.
  • Eligibility for a U.S. Security Clearance is required.
  • Nice to Have: Experience with the government sector and Department of War.
