Position Overview
The University of Kansas, School of Pharmacy, Department of Pharmacy Practice, is seeking candidates for a one semester appointment as an instructor (instructional faculty position) for the Fall, 2026 semester. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching PHPR 620: Ethical, Legal, and Cultural Issues in Patient Care course for PharmD students.

Job responsibilities will include teaching PHPR 620 including but not limited to: developing and facilitating educational experiences for this didactic class, as well as student assessment for this portion of the course via exams, quizzes, assignments, or other appropriate measures of student achievement. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide office hours for students in the course, either in-person or online.

Preferred candidates will have experience and training in healthcare ethics, and strong verbal and written communication skills.

The Instructor is an instructional faculty position that is not eligible for tenure or promotion in rank. This is a term appointment for the Fall 2026 semester. Renewal will be based upon unit needs and funding as well as performance that meets expectations, not to exceed two continuous semesters.

This position is subject to a collective bargaining agreement between The University of Kansas and United Academics, United Academics of KU, AAUP, or AFT. UAKU is the exclusive representative. As the State of Kansas is a right to work state, you have the right to be a member or not be a member of a union without fear of personal or professional repercussions.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. prior to the start date of the position.

Job Description
100% Instructional Duties:
  • As an instructor for the university, primary duties and responsibilities include: teaching in PHPR 620, developing course materials, developing and managing syllabi, creating lectures and assignments, grading student work, advising students and holding office hours.
  • All instructors are expected to collaborate with colleagues, be current in the field, and are required to adhere to departmental, school/college and university polices and procedures.

Required Qualifications
  1. Terminal degree in Pharmacy (Doctor of Pharmacy from an ACPE accredited school or for pre-2000 graduates, a BS in Pharmacy degree is considered terminal), Law, or healthcare related discipline OR Master's and 7 years of relevant experience in a healthcare related field.
  2. Record of research, scholarship or achievement in a healthcare related field.

Preferred Qualifications
  1. Experience teaching healthcare ethics.
  2. Experience with culturally competent care.
