Position Purpose
To serve as a medical clinician and to provide primary medical care and health promotion to the student community in consultation with staff physicians.
Required Qualifications
Skills and Knowledge
* Knowledge of adolescent and young adult growth and development.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Sound judgment and problem-solving skills and ability to make independent decisions.
* Ability to make medical and health assessments and apply PA/NP practices and processes.
* Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.

Minimum Experience
* Two years of nurse practitioner or physician assistant experience.
* Experience in primary care, college health, and/or community health desirable.
* Experience in physical assessment and triage.

Minimum Education
Physician Assistant:
* Graduate from an approved American Medical Association program in medical-clinical science for physician assistants or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Must have passed the national board exam for physician assistants.
* Must be eligible for registration by the New Hampshire Board of Medicine as a PA.
* Must be eligible for registration with DEA and NH State Board of Pharmacy.
Nurse Practitioner:

  • Graduate of an American Nursing Association approved program for nurse practitioners.
  • Must be eligible for licensure as an advanced registered nurse practitioner by the New Hampshire State Board of Nursing.
  • Must be eligible for registration with DEA and NH State Board of Pharmacy.

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience in Sports Medicine desirable.
* Suturing and phlebotomy skills desirable.

Key Accountabilities
Clinical
* Provides direct clinical care for patients, such as obtaining medical and health histories, performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting labs and x-rays, determining diagnoses and treatments, prescribing medications, and referring to specialists, as well as other clinical functions, under the direction of attending staff physicians.
* May be asked to perform once weekly On Call duties, with back up by the attending MD, during the major terms.
* Provides individual education, consultation, and community education and outreach in the areas of preventive medicine, health promotion, and health education.
* Assists in teaching medical students and residents during their clinical rotations through the Health Service.
* Provides regular presentations in the in-house Continuing Medical Education program.
* Gives input to and follows current medical and administrative policies, procedures, and philosophies.
* Applies knowledge of adolescent and young adult growth and development in the treatment of students.
* Communicates respectfully with and is sensitive to the varying needs of a diverse student community and fosters inclusiveness and diversity.
