POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Quality Control is based in Anchorage, Alaska and reports to the VP of Technical Operations. This position is responsible for the Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program to ensure maintenance, preventative maintenance, and alterations are performed in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations and Company Operations Specifications. The incumbent is responsible for the surveillance and quality control of all maintenance providers, overhaul facilities, aircraft records, and the airworthiness of Company-operated aircraft, engines, components, appliances, and their release to service. The Director of Quality Control plans, organizes, directs, and controls key activities, change procedures, and makes safety risk acceptance decisions for the policies and processes within their area of responsibility. RESPONSIBILITIES
- Maintains applicable Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) manuals, including the approval and submission for approval of all necessary revisions.
- Maintains Part D and Part E of the Company Operations Specifications by performing a monthly audit comparing the Ops Specs to the current FAA list on the Web-Based Operations Safety System (WebOPSS) website.
- Leads the Aircraft Records Section and assures the editing, accuracy, and maintenance of all current and historical aircraft logbooks, records, and completed inspection packages.
- Leads the Inspection Section to assure the proper inspection of all maintenance performed on Company aircraft.
- Assures the content of the NAC Authorizations List remains current and accurate.
- Leads the Quality Control department to assure the establishment and monitoring of the Company's analysis, surveillance, and reliability programs.
- Leads the Maintenance Training and Auditing Section in close coordination with all internal and external stakeholders.
- Evaluates and processes changes in inspection and maintenance procedures as recommended by the Quality Assurance Analyst.
- Delegates inspection, maintenance, or airworthiness release authority to qualified maintenance personnel in accordance with approved Company maintenance procedures.
- Assures that each aircraft identified in Company Operations Specification D092 as approved for RVSM Operations is maintained under the approved Company RVSM System Maintenance Program.
- Assures that each aircraft identified in Company Operations Specification D086 (Maintenance Program Authorization for Two-Engine Airplanes Used in Extended Range Operations) is maintained under the approved Company ETOPS Maintenance Program.
- Assures the quality control of all Company aircraft and aircraft components through the Maintenance Outsourcing, External Audit Program, and CASP.
- Assures strict regulatory compliance with the maintenance outsourcing process.
- Assures the collection of all FAA Forms 337, Engineering Orders, and airworthiness releases from all maintenance and overhaul providers utilized by the Company.
- Establishes and manages the Company's self-audit program for the Maintenance Department.
- Assures the timely submission of all required maintenance and compliance reports to the FAA.
- Assures the preparation of any engineering necessary for maintaining aircraft in a continuous airworthy condition, obtaining necessary engineering authorizations for modifications and repairs, and assuring clear instructions for continued airworthiness.
- Develops and prepares the Quality Control department budgets and enforces effective financial controls.
- Maintains a close, collaborative working relationship with other operational departments.
- Serves as the primary Company liaison with the FAA, NTSB, other airlines, and relevant regulatory agencies.
- Assures the implementation, training, and overall management of the Minimum Equipment List (MEL) Management Program.
- Jointly manages the MEL/CDL procedures process alongside the Director of Flight Operations and the Senior Director of Maintenance.
- Ensures the quality, integrity, and compliance of the Company's rejected parts policies and procedures.
- Manages calibrated equipment protocols and shelf-life compliance policies.
- Assures maintenance weight and balance processes are fully complied with and performs all required oversight tasks.
- Identifies hazards within the Company's operations and systems, proactively reporting them through the WBAT or departmental hazard reporting systems.
- Holds responsibility and authority to develop, implement, and maintain Safety Management System (SMS) processes applicable to maintenance operations in accordance with Safety Management Manual, Chapter 3.
- Fosters a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment.
- Provides effective leadership and ensures all team members receive appropriate training, coaching, mentoring, and professional development.
- Travels to stations throughout the network, including regular travel to outstations, MROs, and line maintenance providers.
- Leads the Maintenance Planning Department to ensure accurate forecasting of all short- and long-range maintenance planning tasks.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS Regulatory & Technical Certifications
- Must fully meet the requirements of 14 CFR Part 119.67(c):
- Must hold a valid mechanic certificate with both Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) ratings, having held these ratings for at least three (3) years.
- Must have at least three (3) years of maintenance experience on different types of large aircraft (with 10 or more passenger seats) with an air carrier or certificated repair station, one (1) year of which must have been as a maintenance inspector.
- Must have at least one (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity maintaining the same category and class of aircraft as the certificate holder uses.
Knowledge, Skills, & Experience
- Regulatory Knowledge: Must be deeply knowledgeable about the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs), aviation safety standards, safe operating practices, Company maintenance manuals, FAA-approved Operations Specifications, and applicable maintenance provisions of 14 CFR Part 121.
- Core Systems Expertise: Must possess thorough knowledge of Applicable CFRs, FAA Operating Certificates, and Operations Specifications.
- Systems Adaptability: Ability to rapidly learn company-specific manuals, internal policies, procedures, inventory protocols, and training frameworks.
- Leadership Excellence: Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and lead teams while cultivating a safe, positive, and accountable work environment.
- Supervisory Scope: Past experience managing a full supervisory lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, staff development, progressive discipline, and terminations.
- Fiscal Responsibility: Prior professional experience preparing, tracking, and monitoring departmental budgets.
- Licensing: Requires a valid driver's license and a clean, safe driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- The majority of work is performed in an office environment with adequate lighting, ventilation, and standard temperature/noise controls.
- However, this position requires active, regular time spent in operational environments such as maintenance hangars, flight lines, and outdoor airline ramps.
- May occasionally be exposed to adverse weather conditions (including extreme Alaskan cold or heat), engine fumes, wet surfaces, and icy tarmac conditions.
PHYSICAL EFFORT
- The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and walk throughout facilities.
- Requires acute sensory capabilities, including close vision, clear speech, and strong auditory tracking.
- Manual dexterity is required for frequent computer use, data analysis, spreadsheet management, and report composition.
- The employee must occasionally lift, move, and carry equipment or components weighing up to 50 pounds.
