What You'll Do

Job Summary:

The Pilot Facility Intern in accordance with applicable building codes and safety regulations, supports the startup and organization of a new pilot facility by assisting with facility readiness activities, documentation of support assets, and development of foundational facility management processes under the guidance of the Pilot Facility Manager.

Essential Duties:

  • Document and inventory facility support equipment, tools, systems, and associated vendors within the pilot facility, including assessing current condition, usage, and maintenance support needs.
  • Assist with evaluating the current state of maintenance and service support and support the establishment of premium service contracts and vendor support agreements.
  • Learn and apply basic 5S workplace organization principles (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) to support the organization of facility spaces, equipment rooms, and support areas.
  • Support the development of a facility organization strategy and auditing approach as the pilot facility comes online.
  • Work closely with the Facility Manager and Facilities staff to support implementation of developed organization standards and processes.
  • Assist with developing and communicating documented standards, procedures, and visual controls related to facility organization and support services.
  • Support data entry, documentation, and recordkeeping activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including asset information, service documentation, and work order assistance, as directed.
  • Observe and assist higher-level technicians and facilities staff with basic facility inspections, preventive maintenance activities, and system familiarization as appropriate for an intern role.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and safe work practices, including awareness of lockout/tagout, confined spaces, elevated work areas, and hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and promote good housekeeping practices throughout assigned areas.
  • Communicate effectively with facilities staff, supervisors, and vendors through verbal and written communication to support coordination and documentation activities.
  • Represent the organization in a professional manner in appearance, conduct, and communication while performing job functions.
  • Demonstrate ethical behavior and comply with organizational policies and procedures at all times.
  • Perform other related duties in support of pilot facility operations and readiness as assigned.

  • Ability to obtain proper security clearances as noted by contracts.

Physical/Mental Demands

Physical and mental demands of this role include those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, as outlined above. Examples include: remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time; operating a computer and other office machinery; thinking, learning, and concentrating effectively and frequently communicating with other people, both within RTI and outside of RTI; frequently moving about inside and travel between offices and laboratories; frequently conducting laboratory site inspections (if applicable), ability to handle the stress associated in meeting frequent, multiple and tight deadlines, ability to work between 20-30 per week as workload and deadlines may require, consistent demonstration of mental stability and ability to have regular, reliable and predictable attendance.

The anticipated pay range for this role is listed below. Our pay ranges represent national averages and may vary by location as a geographic differential may be applied to some locations within the United States. RTI considers multiple factors when making an offer including, for example: established salary range, internal budget, business needs, and education and years of work experience possessed by the applicant. Further, salary is merely one element to our offer.
