Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Grade Checker to support field operations on large-scale infrastructure and civil construction projects. The Grade Checker will be responsible for verifying elevations, layout, alignment, and grading accuracy to ensure work is completed according to project plans, specifications, and tolerances. This role works closely with survey crews, operators, foremen, and superintendents to maintain production efficiency and quality control across the project site.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

* Perform grade checking and layout verification for heavy civil construction activities including earthwork, utilities, roadways, concrete, drainage, and site development.

* Read and interpret construction plans, profiles, blueprints, staking sheets, and specifications to establish proper grade and alignment.

* Verify elevations, slopes, offsets, and dimensions using GPS equipment, laser levels, total stations, transits, and other survey instruments.

* Communicate grade information clearly to equipment operators, foremen, and field crews to ensure accurate execution of work.

* Monitor grading operations to identify and correct issues before they impact production or require rework.

* Coordinate with survey teams and project management to maintain accurate control points and benchmarks throughout the project.

* Perform field calculations and measurements to ensure compliance with project tolerances and specifications.

* Assist with layout for utilities, structures, concrete work, roadways, and other civil infrastructure components.

* Maintain accurate field notes, records, and documentation related to grading activities.

* Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with company safety policies and project requirements.

* Work effectively in changing site conditions and maintain productivity in fast-paced construction environments.

Required Qualifications

* Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Grade Checker in heavy civil construction preferred.

* Strong understanding of grading, drainage, excavation, utility installation, and civil construction practices.

* Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings, profiles, and survey information.

* Experience using GPS machine control systems, laser levels, total stations, and other grade checking equipment.

* Knowledge of construction tolerances, elevations, slopes, and site layout procedures.

* Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to coordinate effectively with operators and field personnel.

* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

* Valid driver's license required.

Work Environment & Location

* This position requires travel 85% - 90% of the time throughout New Mexico & Arizona.

* Ability to travel to different job sites and/or states as required
