Description Mechanic Location: 17102 LA-330 Abbeville, LA 70510 Employment Type: Full-time Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Mechanic with the ability to work on small engine, including but not limited to ATVs, UTVs, Gulf Carts, and Trucks. The candidates will need to be able to troubleshoot problems, and change hydraulic hoses on cranes. Acadian Contractors, Inc. maintains a continuing policy of non-discrimination in employment. - Incumbents perform skilled work in the repair and modification of diesel and gas-powered construction equipment, heavy and light trucks, ATVs, UTVs, Gulf Carts, and automobiles.
- Mechanics employ their preventative maintenance knowledge and troubleshooting skills to prevent breakdowns and diagnose and repair all equipment.
- Perform minor and moderately complex mechanical work.
- Follow regulation and industry standard for the repair and maintenance of equipment.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of co-workers
- Perform in an outside environment to include inclement weather and temperatures
- Proficient in the theory and operation of internal combustion engines and drive train components.
- The methods, tools and equipment used to perform preventative maintenance and servicing of automobiles or heavy equipment.
- Safety practices to be observed when maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment Working knowledge and ability to recognize multiple tools and equipment.
- Ability to work unsupervised in completion of tasks.
- Lubricate equipment in accordance with established procedures and charts
- Loading, unloading, and storing supplies
- All functions associated with services/checks to all ACI equipment as needed
- Operate various hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, chain saws, and power washers to complete function check and diagnostic repairs as directed.
- Check and change oil, oil filters, fuels and services vehicles and equipment, replaces hoses, belts, water pumps, batteries and similar equipment and parts.
- Check radiators, fans, antifreeze, water, tires, antifreeze, air pressure.
- REV: Respond to out of facility mechanical issues as instructed
- REV: Inspect and safely operate the mechanic tool truck/vehicle as needed while being accountable for the tools on a tracking/inventory log
- Performs other related work as required and assigned
- Field all calls from yard ops on equipment repair needs
- Consult with Division manager before repairing any item that will exceed 50% of replacement cost
- Consult with Division manager on any item deemed "too costly" to repair before item is discarded.
- Obtain Division Manager approval before any purchase of shop tools that maybe required.
- Create weekly log on items worked on in the mechanic shop including assistant
- Keep mechanic shop clean and in good working condition.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in mechanical maintenance, small engines, diesel engines, and heavy equipment.
- ASC or NCCER certifications preferred.

- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and welding symbols.
- Knowledge of welding processes and material properties for carbon, alloy, and stainless steel.
