As aBurn Rehabilitation Therapist, youwill plan occupational therapy or physical therapy programs for patients who have experienced severe burns. Evaluates patient's motor and neurological capabilities, revisestherapyprogram as progress is noted and instructs patients in therapeutic procedures to be continued at home.

Primary Duties:

  • Evaluates patient's physical and functional status within the context of burn wound/scar usingappropriate screens/ teststodetermineROM, muscle strength,mobility,and functionalADL's.Recordsevaluation resultsin accordance withestablished standards.Interviewpatients andreviewmedical records to obtain diagnosis, medicalhistory,andpatient'spreinjury level of function toestablishappropriate treatmentplans.

  • Selects from a variety of treatment modalities such as therapeutic exercise, ADL's, orthotic/ prostheticdevices,and other therapeutic agentsrequiredto improve coordination, muscle strength, ROM, fine motor / gross motor skills, perceptual / cognitiveabilitiesand that address scar management / cosmesis.Establishestherapy goals based on evaluation findings and formulates burn therapy treatment plans consistent with goals. Participates on a treatment team to ensure integration of burn plans into overall treatment plan. Regularlymonitorsand changes goals / treatment plans to ensure patient progress.

  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment.Adheres to Universal/Standard precautions when treating patients to minimize risk of infection.Cleans equipment used in patient carein accordance withestablished hospital/ departmental procedures. Monitors equipment regularly to ensure patient safety.Designs,fabricates,and fits orthotic and pressure garments for patients using various materials to improve patient function and cosmesis.

  • Discusses evaluation findings and treatment plans with patients,families,and significant others asappropriate toensure understanding of therapy goals, plans andprocesstosolicitcooperation and promote successful patient outcomes. Participates in interdisciplinary Burn Team rounds. Regularly documentspatient'sprogress to goals and other significant patient information in medical recordsin accordance withestablished hospital and department policy. for physicians, other treatmentmembersand/orsupervisor'sreview.

  • Maintains records and logs of treatments performed and prepares charge slips for billing purposes dailyin accordance withhospital and departmental policy. Participates in Burn Team discharge planning. Develops home programs, recommends continued therapy andadditionalservices asappropriate forcontinued patient rehabilitation and continuity of care.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational or Physical Therapy.

  • Job-related experience.

  • AOTA/APTA registration (as applicable by discipline).

  • D.C(Districtof Columbia) licensure as an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist.
