SUMMARY:

The Technical Writer III will work directly with the Government personnel in meeting the writing needs of the project.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Gathers and translates technical information into concise language and mission specific language and format while maintaining meaning and increasing usability.
* Researches and analyzes documents so that they adhere to appropriate style, regulations, format, classification markings, and applicable literature.
* Works with writers, analysts, and researchers to improve the general quality and effectiveness of communications, verifies copy with appropriate departments, and will coordinate production and distribution of materials.
* Directs and maintains a production list of work in progress, in coordination with the customer's requests and requirements.
* Receives assignments and technical information from a supervisor then takes direction from the customer in coordination with the supervisor.
* Researches catalogs, drawings, and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and servicing equipment.
* Integrates charts, sketches, drawings, lists, specifications, mockups, and photographs to delineate technology, operating procedures, and production sequence and detail.
* material and completes writing assignments in accordance with set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
* Maintains records and versions and revisions of documents.

* Incorporates photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate processes.
* Organizes information for publication layouts.
* Drafts test plans, test reports, and supplemental information as requested.
* Develops, writes, and edits material for reports, manuals, briefs, proposals, instruction books, catalogs, and related technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation, operation, and maintenance of machinery and other equipment.
* Observes production, developmental, and experimental activities to determine operating procedure and detail.
* Interviews production and engineering personnel.
* Reads journals, reports, and other material to become familiar with product technologies and production methods.
* Reviews manufacturer's and trade catalogs, drawings and other data relative to operation, maintenance, and service of equipment.
* Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, parts lists, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.
* Organizes material and completes writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology.
* Reviews published materials and recommends revisions or changes in scope, format, content, and methods of reproduction and binding.
* Selects photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate material.
* Assists in laying out material for publication and arranges for typing, duplication and distribution of material, write speeches, articles, and public or employee relations releases.
* Edits, standardizes, or makes changes to material prepared by other writers or plant personnel.
* Specializes in writing material regarding work methods and procedures.
* Provides technical editing for test related documentation.
* Supports the development of technical documentation (e.g., operations and maintenance manuals, training materials, systems specifications, checklists, procedures, and master task listings.
* Develops technical documentation from rough drawings and sketches, incomplete documentation, or documentation in foreign languages.
* Performs other duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION, AND LICENSURE:

* Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, or a related field is desired.
* Certification in document management or configuration management is desired.
* At least five (5) years of experience developing, writing, and editing material for Test Plans, Test Reports, Risk Hazard Assessment, and Safety Procedures, with a significant portion of that experience in document configuration management.
* Demonstrated technical writing and editing skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and accurate technical documents.
* Thorough understanding of document formatting and layout principles.
* Ability to research and synthesize information from various sources.
* Familiarity with technical writing style guides and terminology.
* Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with engineers and other technical staff.
* Demonstrated attention to detail to ensure accuracy and completeness in all documents and adherence to configuration management requirements.
* Expert knowledge of document configuration management principles and practices, including version control systems (e.g., SharePoint, Git, Subversion) and document management workflows.
* Ability to develop and implement document configuration management plans and procedures.
* Training and mentoring skills to effectively train other technical writers on document configuration management best practices.
* Prior experience in a technical writing or editing role within a T&E environment, with specific experience in document configuration management preferred.
* Familiarity with document management systems used by the military or Government agencies preferred.

Work is typically performed in a controlled office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

May require lifting up to 25 pounds.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE:

DoD Secret or higher security clearance, or the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. U.S. Citizenship is required.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS:

As a condition of employment, must pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results.
