Job Description

Plan Energy Center Tasks. Operate and maintain mechanical systems in physical plant where duties include generating steam or monitoring or steam supplied by utility, providing chilled water, and generating emergency power. Equipment included boilers, boiler fittings and accessories, chillers, cooling towers, pumps, compressors, emergency generators and other supporting equipment. Maintain and operate air handlers and refrigeration equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • High school diploma or the equivalent.
  • Must be member of a local union.
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tool, equipment, processes and techniques of the trade required, including use of torch and welder.
  • Must be able to work from written and oral instructions, read diagrams and blueprints, and maintain standard records.
  • If driving is a requirement for the employee, he/she must meet the requirements specified in the Fleet Driving Safety and Compliance Policy and must continue to meet these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Ability to climb ladders, push and pull up to 95 pounds and lift up to 50 pounds. Good dexterity, balance and coordination required to work from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Position requires standing, lifting, climbing, reaching, stooping, bending, pulling, squatting, and walking.
  • Ability to wear half-mast respirator to comply with OSHA requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Kansas City Operator Engineer Contractor Certification
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Technician Certification

Preferred Qualifications

  • Mechanical technical trade school training.
  • Previous experience in healthcare or in large industrial setting.
