What to Expect
The EHS Specialist - Self Perform Electrical will serve as the dedicated safety resource for Tesla's in-house (self-perform) electrical construction teams. This role is responsible for ensuring that electrical work activities are performed safely, in compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NEC, and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The EHS Specialist will partner closely with electrical superintendents, foremen, and craft workers to build a world-class electrical work culture through field presence, hazard recognition, coaching, training, AI utilization and program/policy development and implementation. This position reports to the Construction Safety Manager and requires 30-40% travel across North America.
What You'll Do
- Provide dedicated safety oversight of self-perform
electrical work activities including but not limited to conduit/raceway installation, wire pulling, cable tray work, panel building, switchgear installation, transformer handling, bus duct assembly, terminations, splicing, and energized work - Serve as Tesla's subject matter expert on electrical safety
for self-perform crews, providing real-time guidance on NFPA 70E, NEC, OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart K, and Tesla-specific electrical safety requirements - Verify proper execution of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures,
Tesla's Control of Hazardous Energy program, and verification of de-energized conditions for self-perform electrical activities - Review and validate arc flash hazard analyses and ensure
appropriate PPE categories and boundaries (Limited Approach, Restricted Approach, Arc Flash) are established and communicated per NFPA 70E - Conduct daily project walks focused on safe work practices;
perform coaching conversations with workers when corrections are required - Review Pre-Work Risk Assessments (PWRAs), Pre-Task Plans
(PTPs) and Method of Procedures (MOPs) to ensure tasks, hazards, and mitigations are in alignment with the work being performed in the field - Present material and information to the Tesla construction
management team and self-perform leadership during safety meetings, toolbox talks, and stand-downs, and be a resource to the management team for guidance, assistance and directions regarding EHS requirements
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety preferred, or
equivalent experience - 3-5 yrs of hands-on experience building high-tech
infrastructure and operational facilities (Automotive, tool/equipment installation, semiconductor, solar, battery, etc.) - CSP or CHST preferred
- Demonstrated experience developing and managing electrical
safety programs, fall protection plans and critical lift plans - Background in electrical power distribution systems
including medium/high voltage switchgear, transformers, bus duct, MCCs, panelboards, and temporary power systems - Working knowledge of OSHA, UBC, ISO, ANSI, NFPA, NEC, GB,
codes - Ability to read and interpret electrical one-line diagrams,
panel schedules, and construction drawings

Expected Compensation
$96,000 - $162,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
