DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized environment across the facility by performing routine and deep cleaning tasks. It supports the health, comfort, and safety of residents and staff through careful attention to all facility areas. As a Custodial Worker 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Deep Cleaning Tasks: Perform thorough cleaning of resident rooms, common areas, workspaces, and specialized areas throughout the facility
  • General Cleaning Duties: Carry out routine cleaning such as mopping, sweeping, polishing, scrubbing, and dusting a wide range of surfaces and fixtures
  • Restroom Sanitation: Clean and sanitize restrooms and restock supplies including soap, paper towels, and toilet paper
  • Waste Handling: Empty waste containers, dispose of trash, and process recyclable and infectious waste according to procedures
  • Room Preparation: Clean, sanitize, rearrange, and organize resident rooms before occupation and help move furniture and equipment
  • Safety and Support: Report unsafe conditions, assist with snow removal, and use cleaning chemicals and tools according to safety guidelines

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment (7.5 hours per day; 37.5 hours per week)
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM (1st shift), rotating days and weekends, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Ability to work full-time in Philadelphia County, Philadelphia
  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices, or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing)
  • Work experience in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital
  • Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient or resident rooms or a dining room setting
  • Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas
  • Work experience removing snow, trash, and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Custodial work experience in one of the following environments: activity or recreation room; bathroom, shower, or bathing room; cafeteria or dining room; entranceway, lobby, or common space; nursing station; patient or resident rooms; pharmacy; physical therapy rooms
