Job Summary
The Senior Maritime Process Optimization Manager drives end-to-end operational process excellence across marine terminal operations, leading cross-functional initiatives to design, document, standardize, and optimize financial, administrative, and operational processes that improve efficiency, scalability, and performance.

Primary Objectives
  • Lead process improvement initiatives across terminal operations, including yard, gate, vessel, maintenance and repair, and administrative workflows.
  • Design and implement standardized operating procedures (SOPs) that drive consistency, efficiency, and compliance across terminal operations and systems.
  • Manage complex, cross-functional projects, including terminal transitions and process transformations, to achieve operational and financial objectives.
  • Partner with operations, IT, finance, and labor leadership to align systems, processes, and data with business strategy and continuous improvement goals.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including operations, finance, HR, IT, and labor leadership, to enable effective collaboration and execution.
  • Partner with terminal operations leadership to identify process gaps, redundancies, inefficiencies, and risks and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Lead process mapping, redesign, and optimization efforts across terminal operations, including marine, yard, gate, chassis pool, payroll, training, maintenance and repair, and administrative functions.
  • Facilitate cross-functional workshops and working sessions to drive continuous improvement and operational alignment.
  • Develop and document comprehensive SOPs, process flows, and work instructions to standardize operations across terminals.
  • Ensure alignment of processes with regulatory requirements, safety standards, labor agreements, and internal policies.
  • Direct and manage large-scale process improvement and transformation projects, including transition planning and execution for terminal changes such as pier or facility migrations.
  • Support the development of business cases, feasibility studies, and implementation plans for operational and technology initiatives.
  • Coordinate and communicate project objectives, timelines, risks, and progress with stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Drive integration of process improvements across terminal systems, including Terminal Operating Systems (TOS), financial systems, and reporting platforms.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to evaluate process effectiveness, productivity, and cost efficiency.
  • Analyze operational, financial, and performance data to identify trends, measure outcomes, and prioritize improvement opportunities.
  • Develop and implement change management strategies to support adoption and sustainability of new processes and tools.
  • Provide training materials, documentation, and guidance to support adoption of new processes and systems.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Maritime, or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid state-issued driver's license required
  • Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) required
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification preferred
Work Experience
  • 8+ years' experience in business process improvement, operations, or project management required
  • 4+ years' experience within marine terminal, logistics, transportation, or related operational environment required
  • Experience leading cross-functional, large-scale transformation or process redesign initiatives required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong understanding of terminal operations, including yard, gate, vessel, and intermodal workflows.
  • Knowledge of labor environments and union-related operations within port or terminal settings preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present to diverse audiences and leadership levels.
  • Advanced knowledge of process improvement methodologies, including Lean, Six Sigma, and business process reengineering.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple complex initiatives, track milestones, and deliver results.
  • Ability to design, document, and implement standardized processes across diverse operational functions.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and develop actionable insights.
  • Ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration and influence stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into technology and system requirements and vice versa.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Working Environment
This role requires work that may involve the following environmental conditions:
  • Corporate office environment
  • Vessel and terminal environment - includes moving, shifting surfaces, and active production areas including moving vehicles, equipment, and machinery.
Travel
10% Must be able to travel independently to local office, port, and terminal facilities, to neighboring Hawaiian Islands, and to the U.S. Mainland.

The salary range listed is based on the geographic zone associated with this role: HONOLULU, HI. Starting pay will be determined by job-related factors including experience, education, and business needs and may be modified at any time.

Zone 3: $130,000 - $150,000
This job is also eligible for participation in an Incentive Plan with a target payout based on eligible compensation and corporate/individual performance goal attainment.
Annual Incentive Opportunity: 15% of eligible compensation
