Location: The selected candidate must be within a commutable distance from Overisel Compressor Station located in Hamilton, MI or willing to relocate.

General Summary of Job Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, assists higher-rated employees and performs routine operations, maintenance, repair, and construction activities associated with the natural gas system. Supports the safe operation of gas facilities, equipment, and infrastructure while performing a variety of mechanical, maintenance, and field service duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities




  • Inspect, prepare, and apply protective coatings to gas piping, equipment, structures, and associated facilities.
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on buildings, grounds, and facilities, including glass replacement, masonry repairs, asphalt patching, and painting.
  • Operate, lubricate, adjust, troubleshoot, and perform minor repairs on vehicles, trucks, compressors, tractors, hoists, power take-off equipment, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Assist with the overhaul, maintenance, and repair of compressors and related gas system equipment.
  • Operate construction and excavation equipment including trenching machines, backhoes, backfillers, and similar equipment when assigned.
  • Assemble, install, and maintain threaded and mechanical piping systems and fittings.
  • Perform draining, venting, handling, collection, and disposal activities associated with industrial and waste materials in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Collect, record, and report operational data from instruments, gauges, charts, and monitoring equipment. Perform basic calculations and maintain required documentation.
  • Conduct vehicle and foot patrol inspections and surveys of gas system facilities and infrastructure.
  • Assist with starting, stopping, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining automated gas compressor engines and associated systems.
  • Support emergency response, maintenance, construction, and operational activities as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and related work as required.



Knowledge/Skills/Abilities




  • Ability to safely operate motor vehicles, equipment, and machinery used in gas operations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all required operator licenses, endorsements, and certifications.
  • Ability to read and interpret gauges, charts, operational data, and work instructions.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of safe work practices and applicable environmental and safety procedures.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work in varying weather and field conditions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and follow direction from higher-rated employees and supervisors.
  • Demonstrated aptitude and ability to perform the duties associated with higher-rated positions within the occupational group.



Education/Experience




  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and ability to perform utility operations, maintenance, and repair work.
  • Experience operating and maintaining vehicles, tools, equipment, and machinery used in gas utility operations is preferred.



Additional Requirements




  • Must successfully pass the Company's validated aptitude testing process.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license and any required endorsements.
  • Must meet all Company qualifications for operating motor vehicles and equipment.
  • Must be available to work overtime, emergency assignments, and on-call schedules as required.
