Job Summary

Under the guidance of the Executive Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmaceutical Acquisition Manager is responsible for the procurement of pharmaceuticals and pharmaceutical supplies within the Pharmacy Department, 340B program management, compliance with Group Purchasing Organization contracts related to pharmaceuticals, and negotiation of improved pricing for the benefit of the health system. Also develops business strategies in collaboration with Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Medical Staff Leadership.

Job Responsibilities:

Monitors execution of contracts to ensure that all elements are fulfilled, i.e., rebates (cash or products) are received in full as scheduled.

Monitors drugs in short supply and researches alternative sources of these medications.

Arranges direct shipments when necessary to avoid drug outages. communicates directly with Manufacturers' contract departments to resolve contract issues and expedite contract "loading" at the drug wholesaler.

Monitors invoiced prices from Drug Wholesaler to assure accuracy; serves as liaison with appropriate personnel at wholesaler to ensure pricing corrected and credited appropriately and in a timely manner; communicates prices changes for Pharmacy Automation System updates.

Monitors fill rate of wholesaler and incidence of off contract purchases. Serves as liaison with Wholesaler to ensure service levels are maintained.

Negotiates pricing for inpatient drugs when opportunity for improved pricings is at least 20% less than GPO contract prices.

Negotiates pricing for single source items as applicable to the Veterans Health Act of 1992; secures competitive pricing for multi-source drugs.

Monitors drug purchasing to identify trends in usage; identifies strategies and cost savings opportunities. Ensures par levels are appropriate for each pharmacy site.

Works with external agencies, i.e., Public Health, services to negotiate favorable pharmaceutical contract pricing, for which ensure to the benefit of public hospitals with high volumes of indigent patients.

Monitors reimbursement through participating indigent care programs; negotiate contracts for products with favorable reimbursement potential; help to resolve contracting issues between manufacturer and GHS Legal Department.

Manages pharmaceutical contracting and acquisitions process to include: Review orders for inventory replenishment to ensure reasonable order quantities (based on historical usage data) ensures replenishment via automated procurement systems provided by vendors and GHS Materials Management System

Education:

Required: Doctor of Pharmacy Degree

Preferred:

Experience:

Required: At least three (3) years of experience procuring pharmaceuticals.

Certs/ Skills/ Licensure:

Required: Pharmacist license in Georgia or obtain license within 18 months of employment
