Job Summary:

The HR Generalist 4 provides advanced HR consultation and support to leaders and employees across assigned departments. Using comprehensive knowledge of HR policies, employment practices, and organizational objectives, the incumbent advises on complex employee and policy matters, organizational change, workforce planning, performance management, and other human resources initiatives.

In addition to managing a dedicated client portfolio, this position serves as a team lead for a group of HR Generalists by providing day-to-day guidance, coaching, and subject matter expertise, promoting consistent application of HR policies and practices, and serving as an escalation point for complex or sensitive employee and leader issues. The incumbent collaborates with leadership and cross-functional partners to improve service delivery, support process standardization, and participate in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of HR Shared Services initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness across the organization.

This position exercises a high degree of independent judgment, partners effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels, and contributes to strategic HR initiatives that advance organizational goals while delivering an exceptional customer experience.

UCSF HR Shared Services consists of multiple operational and transactional teams that assist staff across the organization. These teams partner closely with UCSF Campus Departments and the Health System, HR Talent Management and People Wellness to assist and deliver a comprehensive array of HR services designed to attract, develop and retain diverse workforce talent.

recommendations employing political acumen and integrating information to determine appropriate courses of action and their implications.
25 Yes Applies advanced HR concepts to counsel senior managers on HR issues, employee and labor policies, procedures, and appropriate practices.
5 Yes Counsels employees concerning sensitive and difficult to resolve work-related problems and recommends to senior management systemic remedies such as training, and / or changes to organizational practices and procedures.
5 Yes Works with client groups on highly complex re-organizations and staffing objectives to assist in meeting business objectives.
15 Yes Regularly serves on the organization-wide HR committees to counsel on new HR initiatives and to help determine appropriate organization HR strategies, policies, and practices.
35 Yes Serves as a Team Lead - provides direction and guidance to other HR Generalists and effectively and collaboratively interacts with diverse client groups and at all levels of the organizations.

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 5+ years HR related experience and/or equivalent combination of
  • education/experience/training
  • Possesses advanced analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating organization and problem-solving skills
  • In-depth knowledge of a human resources management system (HRMS), and / or other related business software programs and systems.
  • Advanced interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills to present complex information.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle extremely difficult or volatile situations / individuals effectively. Demonstrated active listening and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong analytical, active listening, and critical thinking skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience using UC Systems e.g. OLPPS, PeopleConnect, UC Path, HBS (or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge of organizational policies and procedures; advanced knowledge of functional area and understands how work affects other areas in Human Resources and the organization

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
