Job Summary

The Director of Operations and Community Events is a key member of the Nursery School leadership team and is responsible for the successful management of school operations, administrative infrastructure, family experience, and community events.

The Director ensures the smooth day-to-day functioning of the school, creating a welcoming, organized, and engaging environment for students, families, faculty, and staff. This role oversees front-office operations, government compliance, facilities management, technology operations, scheduling and the annual school calendar to ensure seamless day-to-day execution. The Director leads the planning and execution of Nursery school events and community-building activities that strengthen family engagement, celebrate school traditions, and foster a vibrant Nursery School culture.

The ideal candidate is a highly visible, collaborative leader with exceptional, operational, organizational and interpersonal skills.



Job Responsibilities Include

School Operations and Administration

    Serve as the primary point person for operational matters within the Nursery School and ensure the smooth functioning of daily school activities.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and supervision to the Operations Coordinator ensuring exceptional service to students, families, faculty, and visitors.
  • Serve as an operational partner in the execution of the Nursery School Admissions process.
  • Partner closely with faculty and staff to identify, address, and resolve operational concerns and facility-related issues.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain operational procedures and systems that improve efficiency and service delivery.
  • Manage school calendars, schedules, logistics, and administrative processes.
  • Produce operational reports and management dashboards to support decision-making and planning.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and enhance the family and staff experience.
  • Manage special projects and operational initiatives as assigned by the Executive Director.

Family Experience and Community Relations

  • Serve as a visible, welcoming, and responsive presence for families and prospective families.
  • Partner with school leadership to create an exceptional family experience throughout the enrollment and school lifecycle.
  • Address parent inquiries and concerns with professionalism, empathy, and discretion.
  • Support admissions and enrollment activities through tours, information sessions, open houses, and community events.
  • Foster a culture of hospitality, responsiveness, and partnership throughout the Nursery School.

Community Events and School Traditions

  • Develop and manage the annual calendar of Nursery School community events and special programs.
  • Lead the planning and execution of school-wide events including welcome events, holiday celebrations, parent education programs, family festivals, graduation, and other community-building activities.
  • Manage logistics, budgets, staffing, vendor relationships, communications, and event execution.
  • Partner with faculty and administrative staff to ensure events support the educational mission and community goals of the school.
  • Evaluate event participation and family feedback to continuously strengthen engagement and community connection.

Facilities, Technology, and Safety

  • Serve as the primary liaison with Building Operations, Security, and other 92NY departments.
  • Oversee the routine maintenance, space readiness, and facility improvements.
  • Identify and resolve technology-related issues in partnership with IT.
  • Guide emergency preparedness planning and school safety initiatives.
  • Ensure classrooms, offices, and shared spaces remain welcoming, safe, and fully operational.

Compliance and Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, city, and licensing requirements.
  • Maintain required records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate mandated reporting and ensure all required protocols are implemented and followed.
  • Oversee audits, inspections, and regulatory reviews as needed.

Student Programs and Special Initiatives

    • Oversee operational aspects of field trips, special programs, and non-classroom activities.
    • Support the successful delivery of student and family programming throughout the academic year.
    • Partner with faculty and administrators to ensure seamless execution of school initiatives and special events.


Experience, Education, & Skills Desired

  • Bachelor's degree required; experience in education, nonprofit administration, event management, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressively responsible experience in operations, administration, event management, school administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated success managing complex projects, events, and operational systems.
  • Strong organizational, budgeting, and project management skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Zoom, Brightwheel, and related administrative technologies.
  • Commitment to the mission of the 92NY Nursery School and a passion for supporting children, families, and educators.

Compensation Range

$105K - $115K

The actual compensation offered will be based on a number of factors including, but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
