Position(s): 2 Hourly Rate Range: $53.01 - 53.76 Revision Date: 7/2/2026 Area/Div: 0901 ASSISTANT CHEMICAL TESTER DUTIES: Under direct but not constant supervision to perform or assist in performing special and standard chemical analyses and experiments on oil, water, coal, and other materials; to determine need for appropriate chemical treatment of waters; and to do other related work as required. SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: To be careful in the use of laboratory equipment and other test equipment. To hold as confidential: costs, test results, reports, records, and data which may be considered confidential. To ensure the safety of those around the Assistant Chemical Tester when handling chemicals which may cause injury. CONTACTS: Various energy center supervisors, laboratory supervisors, engineers, other chemical testers, and representatives of suppliers of chemical equipment and material. WORKING CONDITIONS: The Assistant Chemical Tester is exposed to dust, fumes, hazardous chemicals, and heat. Appropriate precautions must be taken for each. The Assistant Chemical Tester must be able to work in a laboratory setting and energy center environment including outdoors.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be able to meet the essential functions of the Chemical Tester job classification with or without a reasonable accommodation. Applicant must demonstrate normal color vision. An applicant for this training program must have received a passing grade in the prerequisite courses and must have maintained a C average for the combined prerequisite courses. These courses must be taken from an institution accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (or comparable association). Required prerequisite courses are: 1. College Algebra - 3 Semester Hours 2. General Chemistry I - 4 Semester Hours 3. General Chemistry II/Qualitative Analysis - 4 Semester Hours 4. Organic Chemistry - 3 Semester Hours 5. Quantitative Analysis - 3 Semester Hours 6. Instrumental Analysis - 3 Semester Hours Prerequisite courses must be completed at the time of canvassing. Proof of completion and/or enrollment (official transcripts) and grades for the above courses will be required no later than 20 calendar days after the down date of this posting.
